Hi all,

Just got a 92 Vitara SWB with the carby G16A engine. I've done a complete top end overhaul as the previous owner said it had done a head gasket. Anyway the Vitara is running OK now. Just got a few minor issues.

1. Fuel gauge isn't working. Any info on how to find the issue would be appreciated.
2. Tacho gauge isn't working. Can anyone send a photo of the rpm sensor?
3. Has anyone put a Toyota 4K carby on the g16a? I've see a few posts with people putting one on the 1.3L sierras. But not the 1.6?

Cheers
Trav

First - tachometer - there is no "rpm sensor" - the tachometer is driven from the ignition coil, via, I believe the noise suppressor.

Second - fuel gauge - I suggest you pull the dash cluster to get to the fuel gauge wiring - ground the gauge sender wire via a side lamp bulb to see if the gauge moves - if it does the problem will be either the gauge sender or the wiring - you'll need to drop the tank to test further.

You can get the factory manuals from the link below

Thanks for the guidance. I have sorted the fuel gauge. Not much luck with the tacho.

While sorting the fuel gauge i have tested the dash cluster. I am getting power to the tacho but still no movement of the gauge.

Are you able to point me in the right direction as to what i am meant to be testing or how to test the noise suppressor?

I've been trying to find a diagram, but, so far all I have is the full diagram in the manuals at the link above - testing the suppressor is going to require an oscilloscope and quite probably some sort of attenuator - I would suggest just replacing it.
