Hi team!
Couldn't find much info on this anywhere but I'm sorry if its a recurring question!
Ive had a 74 soft top project waiting in the wings for a little while, I do have two 2 strokes that came with it, ones running(ish) (in a 2nd completely rusted out lj) and ones in parts needs a rebuild. Seeing as the motors already out Im waiting to put anything in til i get around to body and paint. As much as i do want to experience the 2 stroke and may still do that first.. I am looking for a bit more versatility in todays driving situations.
Id rather stick with a Suzuki motor than an a12 or something. I can currently get a cheap G10 motor that was out of a swift, so my question is, is this a common conversion or is it silly to go for a 1L when its the same mod work to put something bigger like the 1.3L in? Any benefits of a 1L over a 1.3 or should i just wait to find a good 3cyl G13?
As far as I'm aware from looking around here, either way I'd need to: mod the sump, widen tunnel, swap/fab some mounts, not sure of compatibility of gearbox but probably have to swap that out too right? (LJ50 gearboxes don't mate up to any other motors do they? or is it just a matter of finding a bellhousing adapter?) (is G10 and G13 same bolt pattern?) custom gbox crossmember and shorten tailshaft? any steering box issue in this situation?
Just trying to get an idea of which direction to go in I guess.
Any help from you gurus is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The logical motor to repower an LJ50 with is a F5A/F6A/K6A - it's the spiritual successor to the 2 stroke.
A significantly better motor than a G10 with a smaller gearbox. They fit well. A G10 is going to be a nightmare because it was never designed for a RWD application - sump/oil pickup, accessories, but more importantly, the distributor. It points straight out the back of the head and there's no off the shelf solution to turn it so it clears the firewall.
The problem, as you've touched on is that putting a later model motor in the car is that the chassis and steering requires significant re-engineering. You'll need to add a gearbox crossmember as the LJ doesn't have one.
If you have the skill and persistence to see it through, go for it, but I'd start with an F6A/K6A, not a G series engine.
