Hey lads apologies if this subject has been mentioned before but i need some help on a dignosis before i go buy a new front diff...
Recently ive snapped a cv out bush bashing so ive gone and replaced both cvs, external hubs and rotors. Since then the zook wont engage in 4wd so ive made sure the cvs were installed properly and put the old hubs on and still no drive in the front wheels. I ended up taking the passenger side cv out completely and the driver side wheel now spins but the axel where the passenger side cv bolts onto doesnt spin at all. Its got me stumped because there is no noise coming from the front diff when i drive nor is there any metal shavings in the diff oil and no loud bang when the cv snapped. I've double checked theyre the right cvs for the car also
You need to isolate the problem as the first step - is this a transfer case issue, a differential issue or a hub issue.
Start by jacking both front wheels off the ground and securing the vehicle on jack stands, hand brake on, both freewheel hubs set to 4X4. Put the transfer case in 2H, slide underneath, grab the front drive shaft (transfer case to front differential) and try to rotate it - it should turn. Put the transfer case in 4H and again try to rotate the front drive shaft - this time it should not turn - if you can rotate it, you have a transfer case problem. If the transfer case is OK, you can proceed to the next step. Leave the transfer case in 4F and attempt to rotate either one of the front wheels, observe both CV axles - the one attached to the wheel you are rotating should rotate with the wheel, the one attached to the opposite wheel should rotate in the opposite direction, and the opposite wheel should rotate with the CV axle. If you have gotten this far with the results described above, jack one front wheel down (to prevent it from rotating) and try to rotate the one that is still in the air - it should not move - if it does look at the CV axles to see where the movement is ocurring.
a) neither CV axle moves - the freewheel hub on the wheel you are rotating is not locked. b) both CV axles move - the freewheel hub on the wheel on the ground is not locked. c) only the CV axle attached to the wheel you are rotating moves - the problem is internal to the differential.
