Post subject:  Stiff accelerator after water in engine bay

Hey guys,

Every time I clean out my engine bay or do a water crossing, my accelerator cable becomes extremely stiff, almost undrivable. Has anyone else had this problem? It usually goes back to normal after a week or so of driving around.

Any solutions on fixing this?

Thanks fellas

usually with accelerator and clutch cables, they are lined with a plastic tube. Perhaps this is just starting to wear though. Easy fix, spray silicon down it, Better fix is to get a new accelerator cable.

don't use silicone spray if you are going to put anything down it put graphite powder. when you use silicone based or oil based products they give the dirt something to stick to.

when i first got my sierra the accelerator cable was a bit stiff , i went through some mud a few weeks later and on the way home it got stuck at open throttle. might be a good idea to change it , there only 40-50 bucks and it took me less than 2mins to change it over . If you do decide to wait till it claps out carry a tie down strap with you cause u can tie it to the throttle lever and poke it through the bonnet in the window and tie it to the accelerator pedal works a treat to get you home :) i was rather impressed when i did that
