Post subject:  jimny guard chop?
anyone got tips, advice or guides for a jimny guard chop that will eventually be fitting 31s - 32's narrow tyres?

I'll be starting this soon but a bit nervous on cutting the outside plastic flares lol. I want to get it right the first time! :)

Start with the tyres. It's impossible to do it the other way around. You might find you need to cut almost nothing if you run, say, a small bumpstop spacer. There's some stuff in blakey's build thread.

I followed this to fit my 30's, and after some extra cutting ontop, it looks as though I'm going to have to space my bumpstops slightly in the front.

To get 31's-32's under I'm guessing you'll be doing much the same :)

i cut a lot of my original metal guards away, and completly replaced my plastic guards with extended arches from a landrover defender. still need bumpstop spacers tho under full articulation the wheels hit on the headlight buckets. front and rear plastic bars will also need to be cut down or you wont be able to put the wheels on to begin with.

I also had to hammer back a seam but your going narrower tyres so it shouldnt cause you any problems. i wasnt hitting it but it was about 1 Inch away from it at full lock with no articulation.

I used "the renovator" tool on the outside guard. It worked in the inside guard too but not as quick as a grinder ;)

I did my front guards on the weekend. Used tin snips on one side and grinder on the other with a thin blade. Grinder was best.

What did help was that I used a set of vernier calipers to measure. Set the at 3cm for the inside guard and 2cm for the outside. They made a nice light scratch which was easy to follow.

For the plastic flares I used a dremyl with a thin blade to cut them. The Dremyls also have little sanding wheels that worked a treat in getting the plastic leftovers off.

My car has a lift under it which is 2" and is running 31" tyres.

The flares actually come up pretty good and are still pretty rigid which is good. Mind you I haven't done much 4wd yet to see if that has an impact. But I have done enough to know they don't scrub any more.

Whatever you do, just take you time and be patient, I rushed and payed the price cosmetically in a few places.

Here's a picture of my drivers side I welded this up today still looks a little ruff until sealthe inside of the gaurd with gaurd liner ,
