Post subject:  Coil spring or leaf spring?
Recently starting looking into buying a Suzuki sierra, I'm interested in the 1996 jx models with leaf springs for suspemsion, but I am struggling to find one..
I was thinking about getting a 97' or 98' model but they are all coil spring.

Just need some info on what suspension is better and more suitable for off roading and which is also cheaper to maintain and put a lift kit onto?

What will you be driving?

The coily will be fine for fire trails and mild stuff. But the front diff is unique to coily. front suspension is unique to coily. transfer will have to be swapped for better lowrange later etcetc

For more hardcore, Most common parts, A 1.3 leaf will be the better option

The leafy is most definately easier to maintain/ modify.

Havnt really done much 4 wheel driviing before, I've only been taken in a few of my mates cars.
I tried taking my Toyota echo 4 wheel driving and that didn't end to well hahaa

I reckon I should just stick to trying to find a leaf spring then, cos I do want to get into 4WD'ing.. No point getting a coily and then I'll need to change all those parts later on

Sounds like what I did I went beach with a turbo forester, then Ibought a coily ,worst mistak but mine was a unique peace of crap. Know I'm building a leafy

There are more '96 Coily Sierras around, but there were many '96 WTs sold as well.

Why is year so important?

All WT Sierras from '89-'96 are 95% the same vehicle. Also with vehicles that are a minimum of 15 years old anyway - year is probably one of the last deciding factors when choosing a purchase.

I love my Coilies soo much I own 2 of them! Most people wouldn't wheel anywhere near hard enough to require a leaf spring sierra over a coily. :thefinger:

Age doesn't matter a whole lot. Being cheap, rugged cars a lot of them never got looked after. How the car was treated is 245x more important than age with Sierras.

Considered a Jimny? They're getting quite cheap these days.

Reubs my coily I brought off some one really dodgy, I was doing close to 84 hr weeks in the kedron tunnel and went and looked at my coily in the dark, in other words I was a studen . Moron tired moron that brought a heapof crap, it was all dodged up from rear diff to front diff, that's why Iddon't reallylike them it nearly killed me sseveral just driving around town. So I could nt relax owning another one, it's nothing personal.

I do think the leafys are the better option for the op a lot easier to maintain and get parts for, u have to admit those control arms art realy that strong,

I just really like the look of the 96 jx models, that's why I wanted to stick to that year and model, but I'd prefer a leafy considering what everyone is saying!

I'll have to have a good think about it i guess.

What I'm understanding from this, is that the leafys are best for FULL ON 4WD'ing?
And coily are good for everyday use and just like standard, nothing to major 4WD'ing?
