Post subject:  WA rego inspection

Hi people!!

Well I've just procured a Sierra '93 SWB ragtop and made the epic journey across the Nullarbor back to it's new home in Perth. Now time to get it prepped for pit inspection and rego.

Couple of questions,

I'm pretty sure but I thought I'd run it past you (the ultimate brains trust) that all WA registered vehicles require an immobiliser right??

Secondly, does anyone know if they are likely to check the heater to ensure the windscreen demist works?? I'd have to get hoses for the heater is all.

Any handy tricks or tips for pleasing the inspectors??

Cheers all!!

Every car from 85 or 86 (can't remember which) requires an immobilizer in W.A. Just get the cheapest thing you can off eBay. And yeah, they'l probably check the demister if there's any sign that the system isn't up to scratch.

Give your car the mother of all washes, simply making it look nice doesn't matter but clean all the crap off the bottom, turning up with a car covered in mud is a sure fire way to fail.

IIRC, you only need to get a RWC when buying an interstate car if the previous owner has owned it for less than 6 months?

IIRC?? sorry I dont know the acronym..

In regard to rego, all vehicles brought to WA need to be re-registered here.

If you have owned the vehicle for 12 months or more, and have just relocated to WA for example, then you have three months grace to drive on the interstate rego. Then it has to be reregistered but may not need to go over the pits.

To buy a vehicle and bring it back, no grace, pit inspection it is... Even need a temporary movement permit from the border to drive it in WA.

Cheers for the tip off!! She will get a good clean and I will make sure there is no oil or dirt underneath. Looks like I might need to fix the heater too

Oh yeah!! Not as much in the way of immobilisers on eBay as I thought there would be!! There are a couple but mostly there are alarm/immobilisers.. I thought there would be heaps of those shitty cheap ones!! No so much..

If i recall/remember correctly. :)

Oh right, the rules must have changed, it used to be something like what I said. :)

I thought there'd be heaps of cheap shitty immobilizers on eBay too, you could probably just ask someone who's wrecking a Sierra (look on gumtree) for the one out of it and then the wiring would be right too.
