Post subject:  ARB Compressor mount- vitara

Hey all,

I bought a arb compressor a few weeks ago and not really sure how to mount it, the only spot available in the engine bay is next to the brake booster. There is plenty of room, the thing is that there is a mounting plate there for something else (2nd battery tray), its a funny shape a doesnt allow me to get a great mounting surface.

Just wondering if there is any pics of how these comp have been mounted in a swb vit, with the battery on the pass side. or even ideas on what i should do?

that mound in the second pic is what is stopping me from gettting a decent surface, there are 3 threaded holes in 3 corners of the plate but think it would be more work to utilize these.

Do you think it would be ok if i just mount it as it is?

thanks
Mitch

why dont u get some steel and bolt it into those 3 threaded holes , and then mount your plate to that. Or ditch the stock plate and just mount it to the new plate.

Problem solved, no drilling required.

cheers

i dont really wanna use those as i dont have steel lying around my house, plus i dont think you can buy small sheets of metal. I would still have to drill holes in the new bit of steel tho and also into the original plate.....drill still required lol.

thanks for the fast reply, will go have a look and see if i can mount it without using the small plate.

Make an adaptor plate :)
I did mine like Stuey has in his thread:
http://www.auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1842&start=30

On mine, one bolt head interfered with the original mount on the car you will use, top left bolt for the air compressor mount. I drilled a hole to make clearance but I think a good hit with a ball pen hammer will make the space you need too.

yeah ill see what i can find, it look easy enough. If i cant find any metal ill just mount the compressor straight to the body and put the plate on the underside for added strength.

I put mine in sideways and from what i remember i only used three bolts to hold it down

hmm ok, might have a look at doing it that way. Did you use that brace plate or just straight to the body? by having it face that way does it sit pretty stable?

yeah i know, after those photo's i put it in the correct hole.......sounds a bit wrong ahah

Nah I didn't bother with the brace plate and yeah it sat plenty stable that way, don't worry mate any hole's a goal

Just had a go to see if it would fit like joe's and it cant, i only get 2 decent mounts (the 2 closest to the firewall, the other 2 have about 10mm under them before they touch the plate) so ill try get some spacers and see what i can do.

any other pics?

Clowns at Mitchell Bros decided this was the best place to mount mine, drilled straight through the guard and had the plate on the underside:

I relocated it when I put my second battery in, on a bit of angle welded to the battery tray:

I'm about to go and figure out where to put it in the SV - the vacuum actuator thingy for the cruise control is in the obvious spot, but might squeeze it in on the other side.

That is where ARB fitted my compressor.

Compressor will fill up with water if I am not careful.

Do vits have room under the drivers seat? Is always nice to keep it out of the hot dusty engine bay

There would be room, but I'd prefer not to have it buzzing away in the cabin, and it's also a much lower point if you do go for a swim.

yeah there is, but as darkhorse said- i wouldnt have it there, to noisy. plus every time you tried to connect an air line to to pump up the tires, it would be a pain in the ass.

Post subject:  Re: ARB Compressor mount- vitara

In previous rigs i have run it under the seat with the air filter plumbed into the snorkle and a quick dissconect fitting on the bullbar.
It might be noisey, but mine wasnt for lockers as i had cable lockers.. but it was in a nice clean environment and away from the heat of the engine
I guess it would be a pain with air leakers having it cut in all the time
