Post subject:  wt cv's into coily

hi guys just a quick question (hopefully)...

just wondering if there is any difference between wide track cr-mo cv's and coily cv's
not the axles just the cv's...would there be any chance i could machine some down to suite
a coily? has anybody tried it? i am just wondering as i have acess to mills/lathes and was wondering
if it was possoble.

So the stub axle is a different length. This can be fixed with spacers between the hub and freewheeling hub, but it's one more issue.

Couldn't you just change the ends of the coily diff to WT knuckles/spindles and hubs so the wt axles fit?
You're still not gaining much if anything you'd be better doing the full diff swap wouldn't you?

What will you do for steering? Coily diffs/knuckles run the tie rod behind the diff to make room for the panhard up front.

Put in a complete jimny diff/housing and buy chromolly axels and cvs.
Panhard will be in the right place then, the other mounts for the coils and arms probaby just need a little moving to fit.

Seems like a sideways step to me. Jimny has all the same issues as the coily.

Complete swap to WT, or just live with your coily gear. Only 2 options IMO.

wat if u were to run a nt rear centre up from with custom made axles made to suit a wt cv, run a spacer on the hub as mentioned above to keep steering gear etc? then u could also run a lokka up front

You can't change to a low pinion leafy centre without moving the tie rod to the front side of the diff. This can't be done without major mods to the panhard bar, and locating brackets, as the drag link, tie rod and panhard are all competing for the same VERY limited space.

EDIT.

The ONLY option to run the WT CRMO cv's would be a custom 22 spline inner axle to suit the coily HP centre, and spacers for the hub.

The tie rod is behind the axle and won't clear the pinion. That's why a coil front is high pinion.

Just do what the lux guys do, make up a homemade y-arm high steer by welding a 2nd arm upside down on top of the stock arms :peaceout:

Its called a Y-Arm and they do it to eliminate the crappy J-Arm setup they have stock and alot of buggies not running full hydro do it because the high steer arms make the drag link and tie rod sit too high and it hits the chassis rail when the cars are built low. Superior Engineering actually still sell them.
