Hey putting a fridge in my sierra!
got a couple of questions before i do.

should i just wire an aditional 12volt socket from the original cig lighter? or add it straight to the battery?
also i plan on running 16ga? wire and an inline fuse/holder.

any help would be appreciated

Jake

from the battery will be better than piggybacking of the cig plug in the dashboard

As per Atari.

The wiring to the cigarette lighter is cheesy. I wouldn't run a fridge off of it.

I'd also assume you'd want the fridge wired to a constant on supply so your beer doesn't get warm when you have the car parked?

Straight off your second battery.... so you dont run your cranking battery flat.
Once you have fitted that second battery, and a redarc or similar to control it,
you might want a larger alternator to keep everything charged well

I threw the ashtray away and put 3 sockets in the hole. My fridge string reaches when the fridge is in the back and I don't have to worry about stuff moving in the back and damaging the fitting.

Did the same in my cruiser and when the fridge is in the tray the string reaches easly

I think 16 gauge is small, the voltage drop when the compressor cuts in will fool the low voltage cutout into turning the fridge off, the more volts available the better

I would look at 2.80mm2 (roughly 12 gauge) instead, also consider getting another power cable for your fridge, cut the cigarette plug off it and hard wire it to the supply, the plug and socket accounts for a lot of voltage drop as well as them falling out, corroding, melting etc etc.

Awesome!!! Thanks heaps for the advice I think I'm going to run straight from the battery's nod hard wire it. Cheers everyone.

Also do plan on the ultinater upgrade and dual battery set up but currently that a little over my depth. Have been reading about it on here but I might just wait until I have the funds and the know-how to do so...

Thanks again
