Hey guys,
I have done a pretty hefty search but im after some tips that would come from a time served zook owner.

Tips to remove and re install a 1.3 gearbox. Mechanically I can do the job no problems but if you have some tips to make it easier or quicker I would love to hear them.

It can be a bit tricky to get it out, there is not much room unless you have a body lift. It would be best to have someone helping you as they can wiggle the motor around which helps.

No body lift so that's gonna make it harder.
I might be able to get an extra pair of hands

Grind a v in the chassis crossmember/gearbox mount for the casting to come back into when your pulling it out.

Other than that, they are pretty simple
ONTOP:
Undo stick boot, 4 bolts, undo shifter plate 3 bolts
ENGINE BAY/UNDERNEATH:
4 main bolts, 2 starter bolts, 4?gearbox blank plate bolts. Pull out baby jackshaft with the 4 bolts on transfer only, plug gearbox hole(oil will come out when tilted or not drained), undo gearbox mount completely so its on the ground, pull gearbox out 1 man, 2 if your unsure.

May need to undo exhaust and/or front drive shaft for more room.

Smallish spanners or sockets helpful with starter bolts

Careful with the starter bolts if your using a socket set - for stuff like this its better to buy a 6 point socket rather than using the more common 12 point versions that come in most socket sets. You'll have far less chance of rounding off the heads of the bolt if its at all.

Hey guys,

Cheers for the info so far. I have gotten quite good at mucking around with the starter so no dramas there.

Im going to get stuck into it tomorrow night. i reckon the hardest part will be seperating and putting it back together making sure it all lines up

I know on a patrol it was a nightmare, mind you a patrol gearbox weighs about 10 times as much

I've cut 10-15mm off the front of the gearbox mount on the crossmember of every (1.3) Sierra I've done a clutch in.
Makes it so much easier.. :D

As above, but also undo clutch cable, take note/photo of the position of the arm and how much the nut is wound on. There's also a couple of electrical cables that need to be disconnected.

When dropping the box or reinstalling, and you don't want to cut the rear mount, just rotate the box 45 degrees towards the drivers side, should drop out OK (you need to clear the flat top of the bell housing).

Getting it back in - you may need to jack up the back of the motor to make it horizontal so the box can slide in easy. Also, get mate on the front of the engine with a socket to turn the motor over a little bit so the splines line up or use a big screwdriver on the fly wheel teeth.

What a pain in the arse. Took two hours by myself to get it out and a fair bit of that was just trying to get it out once all the bolts were undone.

I'm definitely gonna cut 10mm off the mount.
Found out why my new clutch was slipping. Oil from the leaking gearbox got into it. Awesome. Only two weeks old and going in the bin.
Luckily I still have the old clutch and that still has 50% tread left.

Not looking forward to putting it in tomorrow.

Sierra box is easy. If you struggle with the box it's not that much more effort to pull the motor and box out together. Makes it easier to do rear main, and clutch.

I think i was just whiny.
It wasn't as bad as I thought.
Cutting 15mm off the gearbox mount was an absolute god send. Made it so much easier.
All up about 2 hours to remove it and 4 hours to put it in and finish everything up.
I also cleaned the clutch with brake cleaner as it was soaked in oil.
