Post subject:  Oil Flush - bad for my engine?!

Had a browse through most the oil flush/service questions but none really answer my question.

Planning on doing an oil change this weekend and was going to run an oil flush through which I've never done before.
When i mentioned it to other half i got told it was a bad idea because it would just loosen the shit and put it somewhere else in the engine.
Me being completely nooby am unsure if he's right and I shouldn't do one or he's just saying that coz he cbf helping me!
Can anyone shed some light on if I should run one through or not?
Vit's currently got 180,000 on it and I'm not really sure of the service history prior to me owning guy said he had it serviced regularly but not sure if i believe it now. I've done 2 engine oil changes since i've had it and both times the oils been filthy.
Also what oil do you guys recommend for a vit with that many k's? I think (not 100% positive) it had Castrol in it last but can't remember which weight.

Liqui Moli Oil flush is good, it dissolves all the crap. If havent done a oil flush for a long time what i do is dump the old oil, put some cheap oil like castrol magnetic in with the Engine flush run it for what ever time it says the max is think like 250km then dump that oil, put in the new oil filter and some good oil in like Penrite HPR.

Or if strap for cash, but will help clean motor more.

Engine flush in with old motor oil for the 30min or so it recommends.
Dump oil
Change oil filter and put in something like castrol magnetic.
drive car for around 2000k
Dump oil
Put new oil filter on and good oil like Penrite HPR

I put in cheaper oil just to collect all the loosened crap before putting in good oil that will get dirty quick, so its better the cheap oil get dirty than needing to change more expensive oil.

Hope this makes sense. Friday arvo, brains fried.

I'd never put an engine under load with any oil flush in it!!!

Just get a bottle of Wynns, Nulon etc flush

Dump it in your old oil and let it idle like it says, never drive an engine with flush in it as you dont know what its doing for the shear strength of the oil and might be hurting the bearings

Drain the oil when hot, replace the filter, put oil in thats slightly better than the best you can afford and a new quality filter like a Ryco

Job done, seriously the only way you get a build of crud in an engine is for the oil to be that neglected that it would of stopped being a useful lubricant and the engine would of worn out by now.

I cant stress the good oil part enough, mines done 340000km, ive done 170000km of that, ive always used a quality synthetic oil and mine blows no smoke or uses no oil
Black oil when you change it is good, means the detergants are working.

thanks for clearing up the not driving with flush in. I'd read that it was bad but good to hear it again!
Any particular oil you guys recommend? I think what was in it was cheapy stuff because the guy in autobahn pointed it out on special! I'm happy to buy the more expensive stuff if it means i'll get longer out of my engine.

Nobody sells the oil I use anymore :(

Something in the $40+ range and a 15w/40 would be excellent, if you have any leaks, fix them first

it will come out blacker than the ace of spades. 8)

as royce said a good synthetic oil wont hurt it, however i fed my silver one fresh 10/40 magnatec every 5000kms & ran an oil flush everytime & never had a problem but it did only have 180 thou on the clock.

(apart from the electrical issue :( )

penrite HPR10 is awesome stuff in g series motors, I use HPR5 in my GV and it seems to work well.

great success!!! Armsup

will be interesting to see how clean it stays & it's straight up cool to see a girl getting exited about oil & car maintenance, got any single sisters?

the oil in the silver one was still pretty clean at 5k, stretching it out to 7k & it was getting pretty dark... but still cleanish on the dipstick, bung an oil flush in & it would come out black everytime.

haha nah just a brother but i wonder sometimes! Yeah keen to see because the last time i changed it it was pretty dark too.
I'd rather learn to do it all myself than have to rely on others to do it for me.
Next on the list is diff and trans oil so i'm sure i'll have more questions then :)
