Is there a left and Right or are they interchangeble.

Picked some up at a self serve wreckers today, but pulled them off two seperate vehicles and can't remember if i pulled from the same side or not

Universal... And a lot of them have the same internals so you can grab the Springs & things from any other aisin FWH

I swapped out my vacuum hubs for Aisins a few weeks ago and as far as I could tell they were both the same.

Got lazy and didn't bother rebuilding hubs. Went to put them in friends LWB vit and found they need rebuilding :(
(Engaged 4wd, locked hubs, wheels still spun)

On a side note could someone confirm that the wheel should not be able to hand spin lifted front wheel when hubs is locked and 4wd engaged on a 1.6l LWB VIT? I know this is the case with sierras but maybe i'm missing something as its not a one piece axle.
Can't think tonight. Got the Dumb.

I was about to say yes then i realised that while i checked the 4wd transfer i didn't check the primary gearbox

Post subject:  Re: Aisin Locking hubs

Ok digging up an old thread as this has me confused as hell trying to sort out the 4wd on my friends LWB 1.6l VIT

Hub cleaned and working. Locked position I can see the shaft going to diff spinning, free position it doesn't.
Didn't swap over the other side as it passed the same test. Locked both hubs jacked up the front so both sides off the ground.

Spin one side clockwise look through to the other tyre and its also spinning but anti-clockwise???? That shouldn't be happening as I am looking from the same side. I thought I must be missing something so I marked one stud on each side with tape, one at 3'oclock, the other at 9oclock. Spin the wheel 90 degrees to 12 oclock and both sides marked studs are at the 12 o clock, ie one is pushing the other pulling.

Lastly I also engaged low range 4wd and put it into 1st gear. Still can spin the front two wheels. Does that say the 4wd case is buggered and only works in 2wd or something else? I haven't had anyone to see spin the wheels why I check under the car to see if the drifeshaft that goes from the transfer case-> the diff spins when the front wheels do.

So you are saying I need to spin the tyres more before the transfer locks me from spinning it any more? i'm so exhausted I really can't think straight

Post subject:  Re: Aisin Locking hubs

no, it's an open diff & spinning one wheel will spin the other in the opposite direction.

So its meant to be doing that even knowing I can't understand why in this present time. That's ok I can cope with that for today.
Spun the locked wheels whilst looking under the car and the shaft from the Diff to transfer case did not move.Feel free to laugh and/or pitch in an explanation i'm going to sleep will check again here later

Sounds like its all working as it should be. The shaft isn't spinning as the transfer is effectively locked in gear by the gearbox. The wheels will always spin opposite in an open centre diff so no issues there either

steve's explanation was heap better

suzukis have a circle spin ratio, they generate their horse power in a reverse circlular motion, the motor spins the power through the center diff and it generates more power by spinning the other way from the drive shaft.

Well jacked up all 4 ends turned on the car and all 4 wheels are now spinning. The car was constantly getting bogged at Stockton beach back in april. We finally worked out that the front tyres where not spinning period then, so hopefully its fixed as the car is meant to be going to Frazer island in September. If I get a chance I will see if we can take it back to Stockton to test it. (in Sydney)

The only thing that has me concerned now is that the rear passenger side wheel appears to be spinning at half the speed or less of the other 3 ???

Post subject:  Re: Aisin Locking hubs

its no worries mate,

it will just send the torque through the easiest to spin wheel due to the open diffs.

Persumably the other 3 wheels have slightly more resistance than the one that spins the fastest. (probably due to slihglty dragging brakes or wheel bearing resistance).

If you keep it in idle, while its up in the air, put some resistance on the spinning wheel (with your shoe or something). you can stop one wheel and force the torque through the diff to the other wheel.

chuck it back on its wheels, take it for a spin, do a u-turn, then put it in 4wd and do another u-turn, you'll know if its in 4wd or not.....
