Post subject:  Swift throttle body distributor questions

We have a club member who is building a bitza motor - my understanding is that it's a G16A bottom end with a TBI swift head. I haven't built or seen this motor, and I'm not familiar with the TBI motors at all.

The head currently has a swift cam in it which is no good as he needs a right angle distributor drive to clear the firewall.

1) Will a carby cam (vitara/sierra) bolt into the TBI swift head? I thought it would but I'm concerned about whether there is room in the head for the fuel pump lobe on the carby cam.
2) Will a carby distributor drive bolt to the back of the TBI head?
3) Will a carby distributor work in the TBI application? The member keeps betting told the TBI cam "drives EFI stuff" but that's contrary to my understanding.

If the answer to any of the above stuff is no, then does this guy need an escudo TBI cam/distributor drive/distributor?

I understand his motor has been assembled so he's unwilling to swap heads of he can avoid it.

1, IF it is an 8V head then a Vit/Sierra cam will fit.
2, AFAIK, yes.
3, Yes. I fitted TBI to a 1.3 without touching the dissy.

The swift tbi is kind of odd.
g16a bottom end, with pistons to suit 16v (engine number was g16b, while engine casting was g16a).
Its very similar to standard 16v head, so you will need 16v vit cam shaft, and the vit dizzy should bolt on the rear, but I'll double check.

The tbi head, is different to the normal 16v heads, as it doesnt have he relief for the injectors, and it has a few different studs on it.

This was why I built my bitsa motor. I had a tbi swift motor and put sierra head and manifolds on it, while I looked for a cheap vit head with manifolds etc.
I did it this way because it was very very cheap.

Ill take some pics compared to a 16v vit head.

The motor in question has an 8V head. Want33's - that hit the nail on the head and was what I had figured, but I guessed you were the person who would be all over it. I've passed the info on.

Thanks guys.

Not that it is needed, but if someone actually searches for info the swift tbi, I'm going to add more about the16v anyway.

The vit 16v cam and dizzy will fit.
vit 16v extractors will fit
As per intake side, no relief for injectors, and this shows the 4 tapped holes missing.
So there is a bit of work to make one of these fit a vit/baleno intake.
Might be an option later, as 16v heads become rare due to cracking/warping etc

Side note: I modded a 16V swift head to go on my G16B bottom end with Vit EFI.
Pics of the extra studs and port mods are in my build thread.
