Hi All My sons 91 sierra has developed a electrical issue it has me stumped, he was going to work and turned left into a street it shut down no power or lights in the dash called NRMA it was raining and he had a quick look to no avail had it towed home re-soldereded a wire that he broke near the battery it started I drove it around turning left and right all good so I headed home turned left into the drive way done the same thing it has shut down no power or lights in the dash and no idea again I have checked connections and looked for a bare wire that maybe touching somewhere even checked to make sure nothing caught in the column haven't had any luck so far, So I'm throwing it out there if anyone else has encountered this issue ?????????? Any help appreciatedated |

so nothing at all, no dash lights when you turn the key on, no headlights, tail lights, brake lights, radio, clock, nothing at all? like the battery has been disconnected? assuming the battery terminals are tight and you can measure good voltage off the positive battery terminal with the negative lead from your meter on the body, I would have a look at the big harness plug thats just left of the glovebox for looseness or corrosion and then behind the fusebox, there might be a common feed connection there |

Nothing at all no hazards dash or anything i think i have found a wire a white with yello trace up behind the glove box that has bare wire showing which i have now taped up is there like a main power fuse or a fuse link as it still has nothing also now looking for a wiring squematic |

is it a fat wire? that would be the main power feed in there should be a fuseible link on the thinner of the 2 cables connected to the positive battery terminal, but some way down the cable, there will be some green? connectors for it |

Yes its a larger wire i have traced it back to just near the battery it goes into a connector then a green wire to the positive battery that wire is now broken i take it thats the fuse link |

I just got a wire with a fuse in it and replaced that green wire it now starts and acts as normal as it did before this whole thing Thanks heaps Royce your knowlege was great |

Can you replace them from a aftermaket shop or is it a trip to suzuki |

youll normally need to get an auto sparky to make up a new one, using the same colour link wire and the same length otherwise you could upgrade it a bit using a battery terminal that houses a later style fusible link setup |

Is there any reason why you can't just run a wire with an inline fuse as a replacement for the fuseible link? |

not really, however its a higher amperage than most fuses and a fusible link is a bit more tolerant to small spikes, afterall it blowing makes the car stop which could be dangerous plus the terminals are a bit more robust and not easily effected by corrosion and vibration |
