Hi guys,
got a spartan to put in the front of my sierra (92 WT) and im having trouble finding a centre locally to grab the 4 pin carrier out of ,are vitara carriers interchangeable?
Local wreckers have got a ton of vits I can raid.
Really only need the 4 pin carrier and pinion support block.
One of the boys on the forum has one i could get posted next week but i really need her running on the weekend.
Thanks for any advice

Carriers are not useable, Vitara fronts are 2 pinion.
Vitara rears are bigger.
Cross pin block may be the same, though have not tried it.

I think i may have just lucked out and found one.
Should the rear diff from a 1984 model have the carrier i need?

If it from a 1.3 litre then yes.

Some 84 were 1.0 litre and won't do.

Thanks mate,one more query,
is there a way to tell from looking at the outside of the diff?
Reason being the car had a 1.3 but the owner is not sure if thats the original motor and the body has been sold so i cant check the compliance plate to see what it was.
Ive got a 3 hour drive (each way) to grab the diff and want to make sure i get the right one.
i spose the front diff would be no good either if it was the 1L?
cheers for the advice

1.o litre is noticeably smaller.
Front 1.o no good either.

1.o is 4.1 ratio diff.
1.3 is 3.9
1.3 wt is 3.7
If teeth counting is possible.
Not sure if pin blocks are same

Cool so if i get the bloke to measure the width across the centre and the length of the centre (from the end of the flange to where it bolts into the housing)it should be alot smaller?

The pumpkin size is smaller, but length could be the same.
Think its 20mm smaller in the round section, not got any to measure up, all gone now.

shayno just something for you to help in the search , see the pattern the driveshaft has left on the flange ? thats a good indication of what ratio the diff is .

one litre will have a square flange on the driveshaft (which you see in the pic)
1.3 nt will have 2 flat sides and 2 curved in sides and use a m8 bolt , you can use the carrier from the front or a rear of the nt , but if you use the rear you will have to swap the sun gears for fronts.
1.3 wt same as nt flange shape but m10 bolts , only the rear is usable in the wt , once again change of sun gears.

there are also variations like maruti sierra and the 88.5 bastard mix of narrow track and wide track so you have to be careful..

hey guys
Thanks for all the suggestions but problem is solved, had to buy 2 complete diffs but got the elusive little bugger.
picked up
Two complete diffs (F+R) disk to disk
A complete rear disk conversion with handbrake set up
A full set of near new 50mm leaves
10" extended brake lines
And a chromoly front tie bar
All for 200 clams!
After a days work the diff is all in and working A1 so all is well again.
Thanks again for the advice
