Got what looks to be a rather heavy oil leak.....under the GV seems to be spraying out from rear of motor that has only done 100000kms v6 2.5lt in a 2001 model... is it common for these to do rear main seals or should I start looking at other areas first? Strange thing is it only seems to have started after oil change? swapped oil to 5-30 full synthetic penrite oil.. and yes the new oil filter is on and done up correctly... any suggestions? |

I know the first time I dropped the oil on the gv, the shit went everywhere as its a prick to get to. And I thought I had a huge leak also, especially after reading that someone mentioned the rubber from the original filter stayed in position when they put a new one on meaning it leaked badly. Mine was just leftover oil on the cross member, even though I thought I had degreased it well. I'm thinking one of those k&n jobbies will be going on next. |

i havent done a vit but i assume it is similar to most cars pretty much the same as taking out a manual BUT you gotta access the back of the flexplate and undo the bolts holding the t/convertor on, so when you slide the box off the motor the convertor goes with the box, you can cheat and leave the convertor on but it gets messy and the convertor still needs to come off and be fitted to the box before refitting anyway you will also have to disconnect cooler lines and shifter linkage dunno about any other vit specific things like crossmembers and other bits to get in the way cheers |

Make sure 100% that it is rear main before digging in! It's really annoying when you get the box out and find that the oil was coming from up above and just trickling down thru the bellhousing. |

Scrawn where above exactly are you talking about? going to go up to a 10/40w synthetic....see if that stops it leaking before i pull the box first.... |
