Hi all

I'm on the search for a set of front CV axles as my Vit i keeps slaying the s#it out of them i'm thinking i've got too much suspension lift up front 2 inch spring + V4B orange spring spacer ??? eather that or the CV's in my vit where worn by the age of time when i bough it..

I installed 1inch drop brackets on my SV vit then took it out for a wheel by the end of the trip i had to clicking CV's and to tell use the truth the new drop brackets didn't look a inch longer then the stock diff brackets when i had them side by side

I have a few question in regards to CV's

Can or are there stronger heavy duty made cv available for the vits ?

Are thees CV's listed on ebay any stronger then the standard CV's ?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Left-Right-CV ... c0&vxp=mtr

Has anyone converted Toyota CV's to run successfully in there Vit ?

Is it possible too get a pair of custom made CV's ?

I'm starting to hate ift suspension

Any help would go a long way

V4B orange spring spacer = how thick?

i was smashing CVs as well until i limited down travel (the length of the extended shock plus any shock spacers will dictate down travel) Do you have any shock spacers and are you running extended shocks? either by themselves will be ok but if you are running both like i was then your CVs wont be happy, and of course if your diff drop brackets aren't and longer then obviously that isn't going to help.

i would also be interested in the toyota CVs because, like you, i am hating IFS too

1.25 inch
http://www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/vitara ... rod_6.html

But being radius control arm's on the front it give all most double in lift i think the ratio is like 1.8 to 1 lift...

How much lift did you get using the GV 2.5 inch spring in your SV ? I'm thinking of going down this road if i can get calmini to sell me a set of there springs

so essentially you're running 4.5" in the front of a vitara & bitching about breaking CV's?  why did you need so much lift, what size tyres you running? :?

the 2.5" GV springs gave me about 2.5" 3" of lift.

Yes i see why everyone gose on about solid axle's now :).
There a dude in the state's that has done the Toyota CV conversion, i know a chap over here in the process of this conversion to run 33's on his vit ill let you know how he gots on when i hear more (Maybe some time)
Here's the shock's i run which give's like 1.5 inch more travel, they came with the kit i bought. The kit lifted the rear noticeably higher then the front hence why i used the spacer to even out the front.

31's for mus an 245/75r16 for sand/road i did the lift as a trial an error to correct the front, the new height grow on me an worked very well in the sand dune's but after a trip out in the mud the CV's are now clicking.

lower the rear, i'd say the rear springs would be for a LWB & those tyres don't look to be very CV friendly.

Yes i think your right about the springs being from a LWB kit, I'm keen to do the GV spring in the front like yo have done.. Did you use the GV springs front an rear ? Do you find the GV spring ride stiffer ? Cheers

how much kit/recovery gear do you carry, a little extra weight will bring the height down & improve the ride a bit.

i've only ever run the calmini GV springs, & vit rear springs, the calmini front vitara springs are quite soft & would struggle under the weight of the J20a/H20a

I have a heavy box in the rear i built that ways between 40 - 60 Kgs which i plan to take out, inside the a have a toolbox about 10 kgs an a few other bits an pieces which BTW didn't lower the rear of down. I hope Calmini will sell me there GV 2.5inch spring's. So have you ever had to replace you CV's ? An did you replace with seconhand standard CV's

Post subject:  Re: Needing Good CV axle advise

from my experience calmini wont sell individual parts without prior proof of having their kit in the first place, the GV rear springs don't quite fit as the top windings are a bit tighter. i'm sure they'd settle in eventually but i have a set & they didn't fit over the top coil mount.

yeah i've broken a couple LHS CV's one being silly with the front locker on & wedged in a hole not wanting to be recovered by a toyota & the 2nd one broke when i snapped the tie rod end giving me almost 90* of steering lock & taking out the CV in the carnage.

i believe the factory style ball & cage CV's are a better design than the tripod roller CV's available on ebay.

The 3 ballers look stronger, but I think may restrict cv movement.
Just a feeling as I have not tried them.

my advice, get a 60 series yota diff and some longfields, link it... that will give you a front end that will handle lift and aggressive tyres

do it once, do it right :D

buzbox has smashed plenty of the tripod CV's, i reckon they bind up sooner on droop causing them to lunch themselves.

What about the calmini solid axle swap kit for the vits using the samaria's solid axle an 26spline count.. Surely some mob out there do 4340 Chromoly CV for the a samaria axle

I thought calmini's Solid axle swap uses Toyota axles? May be wrong, the Samaria ones would be too narrow wouldn't they?

Yeah it use's the samaria axle not toyota, i'm unsure how wide the samys measure up to width wise.. I'd say it would be safe to assume there narrower. Maybe a samaria owner could clear this up for us ?

samurai = sierra & yes it's narrower than a vitara & you need to run wheel spacers to get the wheel track back in check

whoops, i was thinking of the "trail slayer" kit on LROR, it uses axles from a toyota

I run calmini in lwb Mine sits higher in the front with the calmini I think it went up about 4inchs when I first installed the kit. Before that i ran 30mm spacers in the front with stock springs so around 70mm and 40mm springs with spacers in the rear To level it out and flipped strut mounts didnt have any diff drop brackets. I'm a pretty tame driver and only resort to the right foot when only absolutey necessary I try to drive every thing as slow as I can have a locker in the rear tha helps with that. Never broken a cv I am only running 30" tyres
