Hi everyone, in an effort not to clutter this forum with my random topics I have got a few questions I've been saving up that I wanted to run by people. My car is a 2010 2.4 litre Grand Vitara 1) Jumper leads. The set I was going to get were 400A surge protected leads for engines up to 3,500cc. Mine is arond 2,400 so easily within range. But will this mean that I can't jump start from more powerful batteries? Should I just 750A for 6000cc engines to be on the safe side? Twice the cost doesn't bother me as much as twice the size. 2) Tyre Pressure My recommended tyre pressure is 35 front and rear and 38 for the rear if it is max load. The sticker is for tyres: Sticker is 225/70R16 102S The tyre that I have are AT 225/70R16 103S (103S instead of 102S) Would the same pressure guidelines be relevant? And what would you lower it to for general offroading? (Up north, rocks and gravel more than beach-sand or mud) 3) Fuel What sort of fuel would you run with this? I've been using 91 and was thinking of changing to 95, but was just curious of people's general opinions about what is cheapest when improved economy is counted. Is there a huge difference on wear for the engine? 4) Gauge Lastly, anyone that owns a Newer GV have an issue with the fuel guage not getting to "Full" mine gets about 85% up but can't go any higher. After today's service they reliably told me that "a suzuki bulletin said it might take a while to read full" well I've driven it for 30 mins after filling and it doesn't go up. |

No snorkel on the GV however every car I have driven with a snorkel makes a noise. |

Its not always the engine you have to worry about. Look for the first electrical thing underneath the vehicle. It also depends on whether you want to fill up the inside with water (I hate that!) which happens to me every time I go in the mud. |

that's a loaded question... do you mind flooding your interior if you get stuck 1/2 way across? does it have the stupid water scoop at the front of the airbox similar to this one?  your owners manual should have a wading depth somewhere, a quick google says 500mm not sure if that's correct though. |

Definitely don't want the interior flooded! I wouldn't mind so much as girlfriend who would kill me. 500mm? That makea sense to me, although i have the service manual with me and there is nothing about wading or water in it... That I can see. Also am I supposed to put it into 4H-lock or 4L-lock for a crossing? Edit - cheers Atari I will check out the engine tomorrow and upload a photo |

i'd go 4L as there will be more torque available & there is no need to hit water crossings at mach 10 |

Air compressor - ARB are trying to sell me a super expensive one, it seems like a bit much. (Also, wtf is with a pressure gauge seperate?) Is there anything I need to know about them or can I get an inexpensive one? Lock for spare tyre - seems like a waste to me? If someone wants to steal it they'd need to tool for it too... If they are committing that much they could just take a jack and take a non-spare one, yes? Snatch strap - are 4000kg one sold elsewhere than a 4x4 store? ARB, OL & don all have 8,000 as minimum |

Wait for the 4wd show and get one there can get up to 50% with some haggling. ARB one is good for under bonnet hard mounting and lockers, if thats not your plan most of the normal portable ones will do the trick fine for tyre pumping heck I've even use a $12 one from target to do tyres. Spare tyre lock is a personal preference if a thief is gonna take something they will find a way. you can get locks for your in use tyres aswell making them all just as hard to get but you can break the stud if they get stuck. Which ARB compressor are they trying to sell you? The one you need is a CKMA12 or CKMP12, not the CKMT twin compressor. Supercheap has a compressor on sale for $100. With the ARBs, I've found the fittings are non std so you have to buy accessories off ARB, might be wrong though. Recovery gear can be got at Nobles Winnellie, 49 Benison Road, Winnellie NT 0821, 08 8947 4884. http://www.nobles.com.au/Products/Vehicle-Recovery Supercheap also has a 5000kg snatch strap. |

Yeah ARB fittings are non tandard but you can find them but the only ones I've found are in a kit for $20 specialty shops might have them. |

huh, you can get male male fittings for them off the shelf from repco/supercheap then you can use normal air line fittings, T's, maniforlds, quick connects.?

IMO the ARB inflation kit is WAY overpriced for what it is, plus i don't like the stiff hose & have seen it split by the black rubber handle from it flexing in the one spot all the time. |

Its only over priced if you pay for it  Freebie once again haggle at the show. When it dies ill just get a normal one with a pressure gauge in line

Hi everyone thanks for all the advice. The air compressor that ARB was trying to sell me was $350 I can remember what type. Plus $50 for a pressure gauge. I will definitely check out super cheap auto today, not really sure if I'll get a pump though, as I can't see me deflating my tyres while up in the top end. |

Oh right I asked that question earlier in this thread and shep said not to reduce them off road (except sand) If my PSI is usually 35, what would I drop it to off road? |

but shep's a lazy old bugger  it's a bit of trail & error to find out what works for you. i'd knock 10psi off for easy offroading, will also soften out the corrigations & knock another 10 off for anything that's challenging. buy a quality compressor & it will last you a life time, if anything goes wrong with the ARB compressor over time they'll be able to rebuild it as they have a full range of replacement parts for them. with a cheap on from ebay or supercheap you throw it away & buy another one. |

Yeah they're $22 at super cheap.... Edit - which I am presuming is the wrong type to get  With a flow rate of 9 litres a minute doing tyres might take a while heh Edit edit - yeah this is confusing. SCA has so many models. 'Lightning' at $84 is 25l/m. 'Hurricane' at $105 is 37.5l/m. 'Monsoon' is $158 at 70l/m and specially notes it is suitable for 4wd tyres, does this mean the others aren't? |

saying its for 4wds is just saying its good for bigger tyres than a normal car or SUV. You should be able to get both the compressor and inflation kit for under $300. I got mine for $250 at the show hence why i keep telling people to do it. Have a read through viewtopic.php?f=5&t=39977&hilit=air+compressor most of the stuff on buying compressors is in there. |

unless you like waiting an hour to inflate 4 tyres... don't buy any of the smaller compressors. |
