Ive had my gauge very low a few times but ive never seen a fuel light come on. Do the sierra's have one (sj80)?

No. The guage is surprisingly accurate enough not to need one.

Yeah - when the gauge says empty, it's empty !

When the gauge is on E you'll typically have 4~6 litres in the tank - the gauge IS surprisingly accurate and with practice you'll soon learn just how far below E you can risk driving without running it dry.

In saying that, the gauge isn't that accurate if you have a dent in your tank.

A dent in the tank does not significantly affect the accuracy of the gauge (unless it restricts the movement of the float), now - if your gauge was calibrated in litres and not E(mpty), H(alf), F(ull) - you might have had a point.
