I've wired up the reverse light but I can't find somewhere to run the trigger for when I put it in reverse.... I tried straight to the back of the reverse light and that worked, but when I flick the switch on it also turns the reverse light on as well as the led reverse light.
Where can I tap in to get it to work when in reverse and so it doesn't turn the reverse lights on when I switch the LED on?
Cheers

Do you ever want them to light up together?
If not I'd get a three way switch: on - off - on. Trace the reverse wire to the back of the car to the front, snip it, hook the regular lights to one of the "on" parts of the switch, the LED to the other "on", the feed wire to the switch power and ground the "off" terminal if there is one.

Try this...
If you use a 15A fuse for the lamp use at least 1.85mm^2 cable.

Yup agreed only way you will be able to get away with it is with a switch, auto will be normally closed so when you put it in reverse it lights up and on switches it to the normally open circuit and lights it up when you want. You will want a switch that on one setting 'closed' it has the supply in from the reverse light and out to the light for the 'reverse setting' and then when you switch it to 'open' it has a feed from the battery to one terminal and the other to the light . If that makes any sense to you.
