Yes, the front crank seal. The timing belt needs to come off to get to it. Not as big of a job as it sounds.

I have an oil leak coming from the bottom of the timing belt cover. Its a 91 sierra with a G13BA motor and judging by the dipstick levels I'm loosing a fair amount of oil. Is there any seals at the front of the motor that are prone to leaking? and how hard are they to replace?? Thanks Tom |

Do you know how much of a mess even a teaspoon worth of oil leaking would make? For you to be loosing that much oil from a leak the whole underside of your sierra would be absolutely dripping wet with oil! |

yer i agree with mr Jrzook here. A leaking front main seal "generally" is a weaping leak, where oil tends to acumulate over time. How long are you talking between oil checks on your dipstick are you noticing the level drop? And how smokey is the exhaust? |

well i took it into work and degreased it on Friday then did a 250k drive on the weekend and its used/leaked about 200ml. i can see where it has leaked from the bottom of the timing belt cover and run down and along the sump and onto the bottom of the bell housing. I've had it for 2 years/20000km now and it has always had a oil usage problem, it has just started getting worse recently and it doesn't blow any smoke. |

If you can see where an oil leak is then best to fix it. Bit of an effort to change that seal, but nothing too difficult. Be real careful you dont scratch the crank of the inside of the block where the seal sits, if you scratch it then even a new seal wont keep the oil in. |

yea well i have noticed it was weeping for a while and has just started to become a decent leak. it used to go through 200ml in 2000km but now its pretty much a 2 stroke Haha. best to get the seal out with a pick tool? very carefully.. |
