Hey Guys.

Just looking for some advice on a hekkas noise coming from somewhere behind the gear box. can only really make this noise 1st 2wd pinned off a stop. otherwise no noise. thinking its somewhere between the tcase and rear diff. have done some research and found that most seem to think its either the rear cv joint thingy on the rear drive shaft... or a chain in the tcase. im a hydraulic fitter and im not at all scared of the tools. if i rip the tcase out this weekend and take off the rear plate. will i be able to inspect the chain and gears. have to say ive never heard of a chain in a tcase. but then again its not like i work on these kind of things.

ive had a look at the slip? joint on the rear drive shaft and its definitely not that.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

What sort of noise?

Done anything to the driveline recently ie taken the shafts out etc?

Im guessing uni joint on the rear shaft from the sounds of it.

A slipping chain could be a possibility but I'd check everything else before you go pulling th tcase apart...

honestly it sounds allot like a chain jumping off gears. like when you change gear on a MT bike. but louder and longer.

i havent done anything to the drive shafts or driveline recently.

Ive had a really good look at the drive shafts and im 99% sure thats not what the noise is. not much movement anywhere. ive also looked into it hitting the under carriage somewhere. and its not even close. thanks to strapping the gopro under there and slowing the frame rate.

pretty sure ill have the tcase apart this weekend for a look and will endeavor to take photos and post my findings. for anyone else with the issue. because there doesnt seem to be much in the way of info on this particular problem.

This is a new car for me. brought it really cheap. due to issues and gonna work towards fixing the issues. So ill have plenty of questions and probably lots of fixes for anyone else.

Got the vac hubs working a couple of weeks ago. the lines were rusted closed and no vacuum was occurring at the hubs. ended up bending up all new lines and replacing the rubber hoses. works a treat now. needless to say i will be hunting down the manual variety in the future for peace of mind.

Might look into a new tcase after that read. Id say I was on the right path. But im still keen to have a look inside the tcase. Then maybe track down parts if possible. Couldnt make sense of what was being said about vvt and none vvt model tcases. I have a manually operated one. No buttons

How. Much is a 2nd hand tcase worth mate? Ill be looking at a new one id say. But im keen to fix the old one. If parts arent gonna pull my pants down on price

Does the manual box have a chain? Anyway a new chain is around $450. I got a near new second hand electric transfer case for $650 delivered. Not sure what a manual case is worth.
