I know I can probably contact a dealer on Monday and get the code, but I had a CD stuck in the head unit so while the dash was apart I pulled the stuck disc out and now the head unit is bitching about it, ("SYS" error) Any idea how to whack in a code to try to fire this thing up so I can at least listen to the cricket tomorrow? (2004 GV - new dash, clarion head unit thinger) |

Nevermind! I worked some henno wizardy and got the sucker working again. The CD player is royally screwed though, but I took measurements while the unit was out so hopefully I'll find a suitable double-din and "practice" GV facia and cram something a little more modern in there. For now, this jaycar FM modulator is working an absolute treat. |

In the interim, I highly recommend spending the cash on a decent FM modulator (in-line one so there is no FM interference). 2 minute job to install and a ten minute job if you want to "do it right" . Mine (jaycar) is better than I'd ever expected, if not kind of ugly in design. (To quote my girlfriend: "This was clearly designed by a man and not a woman." Me: "Yep. It actually works.") That said, I took rough measurements on the depth of the head unit as that is the biggest inhibitor to a double-din install (apart from obviously cutting open the facia/HVAC to fit and making it look pretty). The standard double-din is actually smaller in depth on the top than the bottom. This pic shows what I mean: ![]() What I measured was what I considered a "safe" maximum depth for each tier, or in the case of a proper double-din the overall max depth based on the smallest DIN (the top). Top: 145mm Bottom: 160mm Be aware that those measurements were entirely guestimated as there was no facia attached (and after more than a few cricket-inspired beers), so it was from the front of the face (facia unattached) to the rear with some "wiggle room" for cables etc. In reality it could probably be deeper than that, but I wanted a line in the sand to work out whether it was feasible in the first place. So if I find something tomorrow that is 161mm deep I'll be doing more research it it's $1000 but I'd just buy it if it was 100 bucks. |

Got a eonon double din DVD/GPS in mine cable wise its not to bad i use a metal ruler to push them to the size so i can slide the radio all the way back. There cheap too around 300 can get you a really good unit delivered and quick too. |

Did you just go to town with a dremel and hope it all looks ok in the end? |

Sorry didnt read you had the new dash. Ive seen facia kits, but example bellow, pretty much dremel the hole square and use the supplied bevel to make it look neat. You can send the dimensions to Eonon and they will best match the radio size to fit. eg ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/2-Din-Car-GPS-DVD/M1.html |

I don't blame the cd player, I'd refuse to play 50 cent too |
