Hi Guys
based on your experiences getting things engineered or mod plated, what would be the best way to go with my Jimny.
in 8 months ill probably be moving back to Queensland. it has 3" springs, 2" BL, JB front arms, 30x9.5 km2's, the mounts and bar on the arb bullbar have been modified, along with the rear bar so taking out the BL is actually a fair deal of work.

can you get something 150mm over standard mod plated in Queensland or is it straight up engineering? id like to sort everything out over the phone and have the car booked in so it do sent get crushed...

thanks, but anecdotes is what i need. im sure both engineers and modplate certified mechanics will take my money just want to know if i have already crossed a line at 178mm overall lift...

and 60mm wider track. and no sway bar.
i just dont want to have to revert the car to stock to try and get over the boarder
and the exhaust, i think that will also be a problem...

You can get the BL mod plated..as for the rest, it's all outside of the realms of QLD laws. Tires and spring lift too big, front control arms and bar mounts, I don't think any copper or transport boffin would notice.

I think it's that thing every other state lets you do to mod your car....stupid QLD!!

That's what I thought. No such thing here

WA is pretty tight... you're allowed 50mm combined lift (tyres / body / spring) - after that it needs to be engineered, and anything taller than 150mm they won't consider. If its engineered it needs to do braking and lane change tests too. Plus there's a limit still on tyre size and track width increase! Makes it very hard to do anything half decent nowadays, as you can't just do a guard chop and run 31's on a sierra. IIRC the max size is a 29" tyre. I'm sure a jimny would be similar if not less due to weaker front diff?

Post subject:  Re: may be moving back to QLD so modplates

reckon i can pass off a 3" lift as a 2"?

as then it would only be 2" of tires, 2" of springs, 2" of body... 150mm if i take some air out and chuck some bags of concrete in...
am i over reacting? i was home for chrissie and saw some other jimnys runing 30's but theyd all been bigjimny chopped not bodylifted.

don't tell them how lifted it is, just get them to measure the A-Pillar height compared to stock.... Just say "Lifted Springs".

Of course, if you happen to have some lead in the car to sink it down a bit, and maybe a little less pressure in the tyres that would help too... lol

haha yep. i figure ill get a mod plate for what i can i.e. body lift and then if the cops bother me it might be enough to convince them to go away.
then all ill need is mudflaps and something to quiet down that exhaust note.

I've skim read your build and could only see that you put a body lift in to avoid chopping, correct? i dunno how wild you are offroad but i have very little scrubbing with just the 3" spring lift and 30's. only spot it rubs is the bottom front edge of the rear wheel arches which it looks like you have already trimmed.

Why not ditch the bodylift? the car wouldn't be as obvious, i haven't been pulled up as yet and the tires are the thing that people pick up on first.

trying to avoid ditching it as the bullbar, rearbar and sliders all suit +50mm, along with the steering shaft cos i modified that too..
i still get some scrub with the BL and i dont want to space the bumpstops reducing flexytimes.
think i have 8 months till the zook goes on the barge back to earth.

Chuck standard springs back in, raise the shocks mounts, cut the guards and call it good pompoms

not likely mate,
i removed the back seats when i lived in darwin, threw them in the bin, seat beslts and crap are still hanging in their.
cost me $150 to get it regoed in qld because as i had to get a mod plate because of the "changed the seating capacity" even though the seat belts were still in there. so basically removing 2 foam blocks that dont lay flat and can only hold kids up to the agge and size of 5 and sold as " seats" cost me $150 for the pleasure of removing them and having some flat useable space in the back.

than the mud flaps, FFS dont even get me started on the mud flaps, 6mm to long the first set were...........

still better than darwin!!!

i kept my back seets and trim for that exact purpose. i take out the draws, bury the power cables under the carpet, and the rest just bolts right in.
