Hey guys, Dumb question but if my zook which is a 91 JX starts but you can put it in any gear without engaging the clutch does it mean my clutch has completely crapped itself? Cheers. |

Sounds like the lining is completely stripped off the clutch plate |

Yeah clutch is facked. I can easily put it in any gear while running and it doesn't even move. |

Ok, so you drove home from work and everything was fine, you parked it in the driveway and the next morning it had no gears, that's so bizarre. |

I've done a couple of clutches in a Nissan 720 and it didn't happen parked in the driveway. More likely at 6000rpm in heavy sand. I am pretty sure it's not your clutch at fault here. Sounds more like a shifter/ gearbox issue. Without using the clutch pedal, is there any resistance on the gearstick when you change the gears.I would think that if the clutch had shredded you would get bits in the starter motor like I did. Might be worth a look. Does the starter motor still turn the engine over? A broken rear axle in my old holden meant that I could put it in gear, let out the clutch and got no drive. Might be the same for a zook in 2wd. What happens if you put it in 4wd? Just a few suggestions. I'm not a zook expert, but it gives you something to check until a smart person replies. Kev. |

Krat, my post was an attempt to get Zookiboi to actually give us some background. It is impossible to diagnose a problem over the internet when someone gives you no background. For all we know he just put the gearbox back in the car and forgot to put a clutch and pressure plate in it. |

Vaughn a while back I bought a yellow I litre hard top from Geebung to wreck out, it had been some blokes long term project, when I got it the car was not running, no exhaust manifold on it. He said it had been a good runner but it had a gearbox issue. When I pulled the engine out and took the box off it had a pressure plate but no clutch plate in it. |

Ok sorry everyone here is the background. I put new 31 inch tyres on my 1.3 ltr zook. I went back to home and a mate started driving it up the highway. About 500m away from where it was parked it INSTANTANEOUSLY (yeah you like that word) started reving high whilst in 4th gear. My mate then stopped the car. I rocked up and I can shift it into any gear without a crunch while running the vehicle and even put it in like 4wd low. But if i accelerate it just revs and no movement no tailshaft moving or anything put it in reverse and nothing. AND you can smell the clutch burning. Sorry for being vague at the beginning. And no I havent done any gearbox or anything replacements lately. The last thing I have done to it was put a new starter motor in about 3 weeks ago. Cheers guys and thanks for the help I really appreciate it. |

You need a new clutch. It was probably slipping before that and the new 31's were too much for it. Get another standard duty clutch |

So you don't think a heavy duty clutch would be a better option? |

New clutch needed . There have been other questions raised about heavy duty clutches in other posts which I am sure you can suss out. I think most views, are that a good quality standard clutch, is the way to go. others have commented that in a lot of cases a heavy duty clutch will mean the breaking of numerous clutch cables. Just more problems. Kev. |

now that you have seen what 31's do to a clutch, i'd think its time to regear it to suit |
