OK - I have a welder that can be used for stick welding and/or TIG - Out where I live it is 75k to town to get a refill gas bottle and I would only use it now and then as I am used to stick and use that. I now have an LJ50 body to cut out rust and weld in panels and while I am OK with stick I an' that goos on paper thin metal they make LJ's out of My question is does anyone know how much welding you can do on light steel with a 2lt disposable bottle of gas? Cheers for any help |

NOT MUCH.... Tony how many cubic litres of gas are in the bottle? As above mig gas flow is 5-15 litres per minute, depending on the job. |

Thanks Jason - I thought that may be the case - I will have to keep fighting with the gas-less MIG I guess |

If you don't want to drive the 75k regularly why don't you get the biggest bottle you can so replacements are like once every two or three years? |

Jump on ebay and look up seller "Atomic Gas Supplies" or "Speciality Gases" Buy your own cylinder, and swap & go when you need it exchanged from a range of speed e gas and core gas outlets, or via mail. D & E sizes available. You pay more for a refill than a BOC cylinder etc, but it costs you nothing if it sits in the shed unused for a couple of years until your next project. |

Thanks Jason - I don't trust operations with websites like that |

Definitely a valid business, it's been under construction for ~5 years at least. The owner of Atomic is a branch manager for one of the gas suppliers (speed-e gas I think). I've got 2 bottles through them and have had ~20 odd refills from them. I'll find the phone number in a few weeks when I'm back in NSW. |
