Hi Guys,

Bought myself a sierra the other day and took it to the panelbeater up the road to get it checked over for rust/damage etc.

He said/showed me that both side sills had been eaten out by rust which is apparently a common problem due to the plastic gaurds ad the spot welded metal on the sills trapping sand, water and other crap.

My question is... IS there an easy solution on how to fix this? He said he can cut it all out and then needs to get metal cutout to go in, re-weld it and respray it all etc etc and it will no longer have the plastic gaurds so it wont happen in future which i get.. but im wondering if anyone else has had this and used a cost effective method to do theirs or if anyone knows someone around the newcastle/taree area who has done this for their car?

Cheers

Pretty much your stuck with cut it out and weld new metal in. Any other approach is going to be half assed and dodgy.

if you wanted some more clearance you could always do it like this. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=43717

If it was me going to the effort, I'd boatside.... but at the very least some solid RHS seems to be the go.

Boat side it or use some box section, much more reliable if you land on them as well.
