Does anyone have any idea what the coolant temp of a 2012 jimmy should be and if mines running at around 90 should the engine feel really hot ? Seems to me to be running hotter than normal.

Jimny bays do get hot. some nights out hunting driving round most of the night under 10-20kph my water in my washer bottle will be hot. After a good drive at 100kph the bonnet and guards will feel hot. Unsure on what the temp in as I am very lazy and still have not put my temp gauge in.

Engine bays get hot enough to boil deep cycle batteries dry from stock...

Most reports suggest that the threshold of pain for humans is around 55 C. From that result it should be pretty easy to make an individual assumption as to how "hot" an engine around 90C would feel..

Simply put, it will feel very hot to touch. You will need an IR temp gun or an accurate after market coolant temp gauge to determine if the engine is running abnormally hot. Feeling the engine temp will not help make that assessment.

using a scan tool I'm getting a real time reading of around 90c ,but the actual engine seems hotter than normal, compared to my last 6cyl falcon and even a 351c i had it seems hotter than both of them. I was after the normal running temp of ajimny and wondering if the coolant temp is normal can there still be an overheating issue in the engine.

nah mate, so long as the cooling system is working properly, id say the coolant temp is good indication of engine temp.
Interestingly the one and only time ive been in a jimny (weekend on the beach) i also thought that the engine bay etc all seemd a bit hotter than i expected, but my mate had owned it since new and reckoned it has always been like that. (he thought the same too)
Jimny engine bay would be much smaller than the falcon and whatever you had the 351 in, so the engine bay may feel hotter than it actually is.
