Hi
lately my starter motor hasn't been turning over reliably. whenever this happens if i rock the car in gear then try again the car will start straight away.
obviously it would be nice if my car just started, in some situations i don't like getting out of the car to rock it forward and back. like shopping centers, where people are watching.

should i get a new starter motor, or is there something i can do to fault find the current one i have?

cheers

depends what its doing when it wont start.

usually rocking the car to fix it means either the starter is jammed or the ring gear is missing teeth

Is it crunching, grinding or rotating and not engaging?

If so it is as Tanshi says. My mates 1 litre did this.

Its like it cant overcome the initial torque to get the flywheel/ internals moving sometimes. And other times it can. I was thinking mabie a dead bush or pole on the motor driping its stalled torque capacity but I need to know if the motor is servicable before removeing ad disassembling it...

You've driven through a bit of water and mud. That could be it.

I've pulled my last one apart a few times after mud runs. Cleaned the commutator, brushes and can out with contact cleaner.... same with the solenoid. Wasn't able to save it unfortunately. Tried 3 or 4 times too. :? They aren't overly difficult to pull apart.

Power leads corroded?

Edit: spelling
