Can someone please shine some light on how to do the backfire technique there's heaps of different ways to do it what's the right way to do it on a swb carby vitara

drive it normally, then turn it off, but keep it in gear and rolling, allowing fuel to be sucked in thru the engine without burning, then after a while u turn the engine back to 'on' this will give you the best backfire.

Ok thanks so no need for the clutch just turn it of at like 60kmh and pump it like 4 times and like roll start it ?

pretty sure you don't have to touch the throttle.. just the engine braking sucks enough fuel in to do the job.

Ah...
I just rev it manually by hand to 6000rpm then stuff a towel over the intake.
Remove towel before engines dies, never had it backfire that way

get it up to speed, switch the ignition off leave it in gear & let it roll with the ignition off, then fire it back up with the key. :woohoo:

What sort of backfire do you want?
You can make it backfire through the carby or in the exhaust.
Through the carby is as described above, swap plug leads.
In the exhaust is the 'keybang' style above and if you do that, can you video the backfire please. pompoms pompoms pompoms

Through the carby. I'm not sure I'm gonna do it notices a vacuum like with a little orange filter that goes into the air filter plastic that came off seems to run fine now might do some key bangs though lol blow up some mufflers

I have seen the 'backfire' method used to clear blocked carbys plenty of times but yet to see it work properly or for any longevity.

Considering idle jet removal, cleaning and reassembly takes less than an hour, I don't see any reason to try back firing...

that's where i think the french/mexican/wog tune up is better, rather than just blowing the crap out of the jets by backfiring through the carby only to have it get stuck again. the rev it up & suffocate it method seems to suck what ever shit is stuck in the jets through.

Backfiring through the carby (swapping ign leads) should be reserved for when you are stuck on the side of the road miles from home with a spluttering engine and used as a last resort....

It's not a good idea to get into the practice of doing it for maintenance in your garage. You can have the carby off, and the jets out in less than half an hour. Then blow them out with a can of carby cleaner......

I'ts more likely you have crap floating around in the fuel bowl if you think the carby jet is blocked, so backfiring through the carby may release the bit of grit back into the fuel bowl, only a matter of time before it gets lodged in the jet again....
