Hi all Not sure, but this looks like the correct place for my n00b tech questions. Just picked up a 2005 Jimny with 116,000KM on the clock. The car has had a new O2 sensor installed in the last few thousand KM...I am going to assume it was an aftermarket part and not a genuine suzuki. Now the exact same O2 sensor is once again reading bad values and making the car throw P0131 codes. It (bank 1, sensor 1) is reading between 0.4v and 0.61v whilst the older sensor down the line further (bank 1 sensor 2) is reading a fairly constant 1.27V. Now, if it weren't for the fact that this thing was recently replaced I would just buy another and install it. The fact that the brand new sensor has turned cactus so quickly makes me think something else is going on here! Our other suzuki (Swift Sport M16a VVTI) has a problem with the catalytic converter in the manifold, which causes a check engine light and needs the cat replaced (bullshit expensive...thinking of just getting headers and pissing off the first cat); but what I have learned from dealing with that problem is that the voltage difference between O2 sensor 1 and O2 sensor 2 can actually indicate a problem with the cat. My question is, does the 2005 M13A Jimny sold in Aus have a catalytic converter in the manifold that could be causing this, or was the replacement O2 sensor just a dud? Any opinions welcome, most of all knowledgeable ones! yes, the origional m13a mani has a cat, with a second cat behind it on the pipe. extractors are also available for under $300. |

Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit scared of going down that road after seeing dyno results which show a LOSS of 6kw or something after fitting extractors but to be honest I would be very glad to be rid of the damn cats - they seem to cause quite a few problems around the 120,000+km mark for suzukis. Also worried that after doing this, the car is just going to keep throwing check engine lights all the time. |

jimnys have 2. extractors elimate only one of them. the peak power from a 4-1 vs a 4-2-1 can be lower, but overall torque is better, and that's what your using day to day. but a full exhaust should get the power back, with additional torques. |

What you probably saw with that drop of 6kw was on a non-vvt jimny (Jimnycrew website)which has a nice stock exhaust manifold, if you get headers on a vvt jimny you will get a noticable increase when the stock shit precat-manifold is binned. |

yep still applies, I didn't even really look at the matching when I chucked my headers on(was too keen to swap it out.) |

If its the article that I think it is then it was a one-off custom made manifold. You would hope that the manufacturer of an off-the-shelf item would try a few different designs until they got one that worked properly. That said the aftermarket items that I've seen have had unequal length primaries which may not help, the original is more of a log design, maybe the problem is that the M13 engine takes up more space, the G13BB extractors generally tend to look better designed. |
