hello. pompoms

so the zook is having idling problems. :rambo: :rambo: :rambo: it seems as though the cooler climate temp affects this
things to know

Idles high in cold weather and low in hot...
flushed radiator and coolant syst
replaced radiator a yr ago. but could also be shit house now.
boiled a couple of weeks ago but the flushed fixed the boiling issue

symptoms.
on first start early morning it starts pretty rubbish. then idles at 1500 ( my previous normal warm up rpm) but slowly then gets faster and peaks out at 3000 rpm!!!
driving it doesnt come below 2300 rpm.
when recently 4wding it had same problems but the engine temp and climate temp rose allot and idle went all the way down to 300 rpm, yes 300...

i dont know much about carb adjustment.
i have ordered a new water pump just because it usually gets a bit hot in summer.
next will be radiator ( maybe vitara)
then hoses.

has anyone had this issue before?
a quick look on here leads me to think my stain of a carby is the issue

thanks Jake

Yeah every year or so I have trouble with one of mine.
If the vacum hoses are long enough cut 10mm of the ends.If not replace.
Buy a can of carby cleaner, and use whole can.

good luck

bye

Have you fiddled with the carby?
Did it start to play up and you tinkered with it?
Or was it working fine and started doing ALL of this all by itself?

Anyway, deal with the heat issue.
If its cooking itself and near new radiator, check radiator cap, check thermostat, check lines etc for air locks/blockages.
Is it using coolant?
Hows the timing?
hows the plugs? Could be bit of coolant in there to account for hard starting.
Has the carby been tinkered with? Any chance the jets got swapped around?
could cause it to overheat and possibly run like shit too.

If there is cooling issues and the choke/wax pellet is partially or mostly blocked it can cause issues.
Subsequently adjusting the carby because it has heating issues, can cause these symptoms.

The coolant passage to the choke often gets blocked and/or restricted.
it can be manually cleaned out, if you pull the carby.

if the choke is playing up it can cause these sorts of issues (if the heater lines to choke are ok).

When its cold around 1500 rpm etc is normal.
When really cold it goes higher, but unlikely in Sydney.

Try bypassing the choke and see what happens.

The 300 rpm when warm and off road could be junk in the carby.

Id get the carby looked at/rebuilt etc, and then fit a small motorbike filter between the fuel pump and carby.

also find out why its cooking
