G'day,

I have a mate with a young offspring and am needing to install a baby / kiddy seat in my LWB Vitara.

I have had a look and can't see anywhere to use as a tie down. I'm not sure what I am looking for, and the manual doesn't mention it. Has anyone installed one before? What do I need and where do I need to go to get it?

Cheers in advance :D

You can buy tether points from Repco or Super Cheap. If you open the back door, you'll find a metal trim along the bottom. My one had two holes through that trim that would accept the bolts from the tether points.

You can tell if it is the restraint point by screwing a 5/16 unc bolt into it. It's the only imperial thread on the car

Being an authorised child restraint installer i can give you a few tips.

1st, theres 2 anchor point locations in the vit.
2nd use a locking clip, gated buckle, double t clip, whatever to convert the lap sash belt into a lap only belt. If you can install the seat in one go, chances are its too loose. Adjust the belt, too short, put your weight into the kids seat (knee) and stugle to clip it in. The idea being that thetes no sideways movement.

3nd do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Yeah theyre fine, a little too overpriced, but ok. Try kmart, target, big W, repco are grossly overpriced. They charge $18 for the same type of buckles i use which at cost price are $2.55. The bolt kits, well, i have a shit load which i get as freebies from new seats, that the car already has anchor lovations.

I can post a couple of anchor bolt kits and buckles to you if you want.

Im going to do a write up later this arvo, so stay tuned.

Yep thats the spot for it.

You will only need to use the small spacer, spring washer and of course bolt. Everything else, throw it on your neighbours lawn.

Great stuff. Still recommend a step by step guide for zooks, as a public service!

Thanks for your help team :D

sierra's have the anchor point on the back of the seat.

I haven't had a chance to get photo's and do a complete write up but I just googled images for a gated buckle to illistrate, then I saw a familiar hand.. Turns out I've covered this on here before.. ---> http://auszookers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=25867

Good hunting.

I got the kit from SCA today, and will take a photo or two tonight for you to check over :)

I will test fit a seat on Thursday, which should be interesting as it will be up to me to do, as my mates wife is out (the one in the relationship with practical skills) leaving me and him to figure it out.

I was leaning toward putting the seat behind the drivers as it is the single seat (meaning I could still fold the larger side down) and its probably slightly safer behind the driver.

A modification that wasn't on my list...

Spring washer should be between the bolt head and bracket, but no big deal.

If you are only having the restraint in there temporarily, just feed the seat belt through the back of the kids seat, put your knee into it and pull on the top part of the cars seat belt and hard as you can. Then put the tether strap on.

If it's going to be in there for a while, use a gated buckle.

I like the process, not a fan of the result.

I'm doing a test fit tomorrow, it might be getting some use over the weekend. I'll take some pics as I go and upload them.

Where would one acquire said buckle? 8O

local baby shops, try target, Big W, I know repco have them but for $18 it's grossly over priced.

vits are pretty easy except the seat belt clips are to long and can be a pain to get tight enough. for bonus points install 2 into a dual cab ute I hated having to take the seats out of our old courier and all seats aren't created equal some of the rear strap design shit me to tears. glad my 2 are in booster with lap sash now.

This wasn't something that I had envisioned having to do to the zookini. However it did get some use yesterday doing a run up to the local toilet blocks and back as our guests weren't accustom to the camping ways, and the SV6 didn't look up to a hill climb!

The little fella seemed to enjoy the motions of the ride.

Great success Armsup
