Just wondering what people's opinions are on the various types/styles of flares for the zooks.

There are the hard fibreglass ones:

Or even bigger:

Or there is the soft rubber options I see people using:

Now personally I like the look of the hard fibreglass ones: they give our little zooks a mean appearance. However, I also like the price and practicality of having rubber flares that will bend, and not break, under punishment.

So I ask you, fello Suzuki owner, what is your personal preference and why?

My advise is to stay away from the hard fiberglass, plastic ones i.e Bushwacker. I had a set of bushwackers and yes they look awesome (not on my car) but they're a huge restriction. I never went as hard 4wding due to the concern of braking one. Of course if it's a town runner or you've got endless amount of money go for the bushwackers.

My favourite design of flares is done by an auszooker and i unfortunately cannot remember there name or build thread. They have removed the stock flares off there sierra and designed new sheet metal flares that connect to the brush-bars.

I have had a couple of people ask for pics and ideas on how we built tube flares on a sierra, replacing the original tin flares.

firstly our sills were replaced with 100mm x 100mm box
front bar is a simple 100 x 50mm box shaped and welded.
tube is 30 mm NB tube i believe.
outriggers are 50mm by 3 mm flat bar

nom nom nom ^^^ that is how it's done, no hokey "brush" bars trying to protect bushcrackers, flares & virtual lift all in one. 8)

wonder if you could use a metal WT flare & integrate that style of brush bar with a VL? 8O 8)

i was thinking about this the other day wondering how well the rubber flares would stay up with good Velcro strips or clips just to stay 'legal' on the road and remove them for wheeling cause as much as they bend i still find they dont quite go back where they were when you fit them and they get heaps of stuff stuck behind them.

Thanks for all of your input guys. Sadly I don't have the fabrication skills to pull off a smooth looking mod like the flares displayed above, but they are definitely ideal for what our zooks go through. Has anyone done a similar flare mod to a Vitara, perhaps by linking bullbar to rock sliders perhaps?

Can anyone provide a link to the thread for that white Sierra above? I'd be keen to give it a read over.

Its a great read, edit: a bit short though, I think he may have done a writeup on the tube flares I can't remember.
