Does anyone know if there is any difference between the transfer cases in a '83 Sj40T and an '86 SJ50? Thanks from Jack |

Yep. Depends on a bit on the variant of sj40T. If your car has a 4WD light and there is a 4WD light switch on the transfer case, the difference is the gearing and the flanges. Both gearing and flanges can be swapped as appropriate, the cases are basically identical. SJ50: High range 1.409, Low Range 2.21 SJ40: High range 1.58, Low Range 2.55 If your car has no 4WD light or provision for a light switch on the transfer case, gearing is the same as the 4WD light SJ40 case but there is nothing interchangeable. |
