Hi all! i keep destroying alternators on my little 1L Sierra and im finding it hard to find replacement alternators locally. is there a way to convert the external regulator to accept a more modern internally regulated alternator? has anyone had a go at this ?

You could try sealing the alt except for a hole in each side and then fit a couple of hoses and run a fan to cool it.
Seen it done on earthmoving equipment in extremely dusty conditions where very expensive alts were destroyed in a few days.
