Hi Guys,

Firstly this iis is a great forum with a great friendly feel.

I've just brought a "new" 2013 Auto Jimny (8500 km). I have just spent 3 hrs searchung for info on the net and on here and because I'm hopeless I've found jack shit, can I get some advice please.

I have owned plenty of heavy 4WDs tat were just that... heavy. Iv'e wanted a Sierra for a long time and finally got round to getting this Jimny. now I cant seem to find any reliable info on soe bits abd pieces that I need.

I want a bull bar. Is xrox the nearest (only) thing I am going to find to a traditional bull bar?

I want a mild lift to improve clearance and allow some slightly bigger and more agressive rubber probably on std rims. I dont particularly want to go wild and I'd like to keep some road manners and ride comfort. I don't want to change the entire undercarriage but if I need to buy radius arms to maintain well mannered geometry I am happy to do so. I'm guessing 40 mm lift (but I don't know what I am talking about)

I may go for a winch later if that makes any difference to the lift kit choice.... and what winch wouuld you recommend, I'm guessing not a 12,000 lb Warn. (I stupidly gave one of those away not so long ago)

I want a snorkle so I can see what it is breathing but the local 4WD dealers dont seem to b able to find anything.

I am keen on a Hayman Reece tow bar uless you have a better suggestion.

There are roof rails on the car which are fine to strap swags down with. A basket might come later but I'm not a fan of these for aerodynamic reasons.

I intend to build a shelf into the back to aid packing. I will build a fridge into it too.

I know I've asked a heap there and I'd be greatfull for some info or a pointer to appropriate threads as I'm sure that the info is here, I just can't find it.

uneek 4x4 are updaiting their bar to suit the new facelift, and its not just tube.

you dont need lift if you chop guards, and for some tires they fit in standard guards without lift.
9500 lb is as big as you want to go, and 8000 is a good size if your realy stuck down. a oldschool hand winch or trifor is more versatile and wont kill the battery in the jim, with its tiny 60A alternator. or you could put in a falcon 100a alternator.

a bullbar and winch add up to 60kg if you have steel cable on the winch. so the fornt will sag if your springs cant hack it.
jimnybits have short snorkels that fit the 2012+ facelift, because they dont come all the way down the fender.

if you lift the car aerodynamics will be the least of your problem whe you put weight up high.

i wouldnt recomend building in the fridge, just build a big drawer that fits the fridge and a tray on top of the drawr.
keep in mind you only have 345 kg from tare weight to GVM, including people.

My thoughts in response to your questions:

I personally don't like the X Rox. Something like the Unique bar above would be good but be sure to ask what it weighs. Keep it as light as possible.

You should only fit 215/75/15 without changing the gearing. These will fit the standard rim. Fit these first and then work out if there is any scrubbing. You may not have any. A lift will not stop scrubbing and only lengthening the bump stops or trimming the guards will do that. A lift will minimise the number of times they scrub. A lift may be needed to account for the extra weight on the front and ARB will offer you two types of front springs for this reason. Others probably do as well.

You only need a 6,000lb winch but nothing more that 8,000lb.

Try TJM for a snorkel but not sure what is available for the facelift model.

Hayman Reece is about the only choice.

Stock rails are fine and you don't want much on the roof anyway. The wind resitance is a killer.

There is plenty of information on here for rear fit outs. Look for my build thread (Mikes Jimny). Another one to take a look at is Zukenutter.

One word of warning is to think about the weight you are adding to the car. I have just gone through a process of removing modifications from my Jimny to reduce the weight. It is very tempting to want to add everything that you might think will come in handy but an overweight Jimny is going to cause issues.

Thanks guys, good advice. I saw a guard cutting thread on here some where but can't find it again. The guy cut off the flat bit of the guard and bent the inner guard to mke it work somehow. I had trouble following what he did. I wasn't too keen on the edge finishing using U moulding but I suppose the alternative is expensive body shop work.

It didn't occur to me to keep a keen eye on the weight. I have a trailer that I used to tow behind the Harley tat I was thnking of using behind the Zook. When I get my crap together I'll post some pics if you are interested.
