You guessed it! It's noob time :sup:

Just got my first Jimny, 2008 JLX and named him Jimbo. He is my first 4wd and has stock rims and highway tyres wth an ARB bull bar. I've ordered a set of Kumho KL78 215/75/R15 tyres which are due to fit on Wednesday before driving to Fraser on Friday for it's first ever off road outing.... hmmm..

I know they should not normally scrub the guards but wonder if it would be more sensible to delay the tyre fit until after Fraser? However, in cases where 215s do scrub, does that only occur when doing tight turning or can it also occur when climbing beach rocks when one wheel is elevated with respect to the other?

Maybe I should pack a hacksaw, hammer and a file... or some common sense.

Cheers!

Considered a Guard Chop?
Your going to do it later down the track if you want decent sized tyres under it, being a jimny and all  .

The plan for now is to stick wth 215s. I'm not sure about going mini monster truck yet. Maybe later!

215s should not rub on a standard Jimny but I get the impression that 215s can rub sometimes if the standard Jimny has a heavy bull bar on the front which mine has. I guess I'm just wondering if I might run into trouble on the Fraser rocks or whether it might only happen on more serious stuff? I'm probably worrying too much. The 215s are going on in the morning!

it's really unlikely you'll have scrubbing issues with the 215s, read plenty of posts from guys with them who don't have any type of suspension lift who haven't reported any issues.

re. going bigger tyres again, well that just opens more cans of worms, especially when it comes to gearing & the little jimny trying to maintain highway speed etc which it really will struggle with if you added bigger tyres & no gear ratio changes.

Thanks guys.

I will stop worrying about potential rubbing and just enjoy the wheels.
I'd hate to seriously underpower Jimbo with any bigger tyres beyond 215. Im quite impressed by how much power it has with a 1.3 engine so far but don't want to lose any! New plugs really gave it a boost :)
