Hi I had a small mishap with the tailgate of my little Suzi. I gave the tailgate a small tap through the spare on a post not hard and no visible damage but now my tailgate pops open when driving. It can be 5 km or 500 meters between it happening and you can hear it pop when it opens if the road is smooth. You can give the spare a tug and it will just pop open. This is even when you have the doors locked.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks
Marc

The bracket/latch is probably bent, at the very least.

Try some crc or wd40 first. If they gunk up sometimes they will not close properly. Had that issue with other vehicles. Youre not running an oversize spare?

I pulled the lock apart and cleaned it down and lubed it up with inox. I gave the rear door a bit of a touch up with a jack and a bit of timber and it's a little better but will still pop with a little force. i will order a latch and see how that goes

My suspicion is that when you replace the latch the problem will persist - the door is most likely bent

Yeah you could be right but unfortunately it's the next step in the search for a fix. The last thing I want to do is replace the door if it can be avoided. The simplest thing would have been looking where I was going.
