I would grab it now and sit on it. Good winch, good price and the synthetic rope its great and extra important on light weight cars such as jims as any weight over the front end is amplified when the car only weights 1000kgs

Learn to convert (or use Google) - 2.2 lbs to the kilo, 454 gms to the lb - convert the weight of the Jimny, multiply that by 1.5 and then "round" upwards - Global Suzuki shows a gross weight of 1420kg, so 3124 lbs, multiplying takes you to 4686 lbs, the next common winch size up from there is 6000 lb, just like Gwagensteve says.

About to buy tyres mr Vet :) so mrs Q will be peeeeved if I spend another $600 on sumtin I won't put in till I spend another $800 lol (I know the math works out better to sit on it but I have tried explaining this in the past to no avail)

Yep converted the weight of the Jim to kgs before asking the question just wanted to keep the question in context/advertised lbs so as to not need to convert back the answer/cause undue confusion (I have skills in this/that department!)

Warn winches are crap. I have heaps of the shitboxes of anyone wants one. First sniff of moisture and they don't work.
I have a 9500lb runva winch with synthetic rope on my jimny and it works great.

Was so happy with the runva winches that we took the warns of our fleet of work cars and fitted runva winches. They work every time even with zero maintance

Each to their own there Shep. The 6K warn on the front of my Sierra is goodness knows how old, was used for years by a club member who didn't buy it new, sold to another, sat in a shed for years covered in mud from it's last trip, then I shoved it in the front of my car without even being looked at. It works flawlessly. I also have a bag of planetaries from different warn models I'm going to mix and match to build a high speed low mount out of a 25 year old XD9000 I have lying around. Because there are 25 year old warns lying around and all their gear parts are interchangeable and I can buy parts from Warn.

I also have a 9500 warn CTI on the front of my Defender. It's in the weather 24/7 and works a treat.

Not bagging Runva, I believe they have a good product, but my preference is for Warn.

Qthefun, one of things to remember is that the rated pull of a winch is almost impossible to achieve. It's on the first wrap of rope on the drum (so cable spooled almost all the way out) and achieved at such as slow speed most people would assume that the winch is broken or dying. It also assumes your battery and cabling can deliver the 400A the winch will require to pull that load.

Most common recoveries will have the winch cable only 1/2 way out or so, and are often "assist" recoveries, where the car can almost drive but just doesn't quite have enough traction. In these instances, you need a fast winch to avoid driving over the rope when you pick up a little bit of traction, and to avoid shock loading the winch brake when you gain/loose/gain/loose grip.

The Warn 6K is actually one of the fastest winches Warn make.

There's a trend now to buying chinese winches with huge load ratings because "they'll never stop" 9500-12000lb is common to see on a Sierra now. These winches are incredibly slow in practice and whilst they will, eventually, get the job done, they're painful to use when you're on the side of a hill and need to winch 20 metres to regain traction.

I have the 8,000 LB Warn as that size came with synthetic rope when I got mine back in about 2011. Anyway I have been through lost of water crossings every summer in the high country and wash it with high pressure water after each trip. Never had it serviced and it still works fine. Spooled the rope off to wash it only a few weeks ago and no problems at all. My limited experience with Warn is good so far. My car also lives in the open so it is subject to the Melbourne winters.

The issue I have with the high rated chinese items is the extra weight. Chinese rarely have synthetic rope and a 12,000pound whichs puts a lot of weight on the front of a little sierra/jim

looked at the comp winches... OMG pricey!! But I agree speed and weight will be a big factor!

Maybe if you were into winch racing. Cheaper and just as exciting to race hermit crabs or cockroaches. I prefer driving to seeing how fast my winch is.

How strong is it. Have u done any big pulls . Im leaning towards it gor the gv as most of the time u r just assisting and if i need to pull it out boged i can just use one or 2 snatch blocks
