Hey guys, In the market for a Jimny or GV, both around the 2007-2010 area. Do either of these have any common issues i should look for when purchasing, ie..common rust spots etc? |

You shouldn't be seeing any rust to speak of unless the car has been on the beach. Biggest issue you're likely to see with the jimny is steering shimmy/shake, which is evidence that kingpin bearing wear has occurred. Steve. |

I would add a stretched transfer case chain which would be evidenced by excessive drive train noise. |

Qthefun Red is one of the worst colours to paint a car in as it fades easy and is hard to match and more expensive to ensure, white is best |

Quite different beasts, the Jimny & 2nd gen (JB) GV. Depends on what you want to use it for & if intending to off-road it, or modify as to which might suit you best. The GV (if SWB - to be comparable to the Jimny) of that era, should have the 1.6litre G16B - don't seem to suffer a crack in the engine block like the earlier engines in Vitaras do, or maybe they are not old enough yet? Jimny will have G13BB. Both engines have a great reputation, as long as basic servicing is maintained (coolant concentration, oil changed, timing belt changed etc) Both cars are marginally under powered in today's world, but don't really have major inherent faults that wouldn't be picked up on a reasonable test drive. GV more daily driven friendly. Jimny more offroadable & modifiable. Good luck, Michael |

Ok. So I've decided to go for a Jimny. I plan on having one by next weekend if I can find a good one. Can anyone tell me what the differences are in the series? JX, JLX, Z Series etc.. |

Sneki81 wrote: Is there a specific FB site that people advertise Jimny's for sale? Not really, most people are on Suzuki Jimny owners of Australia. There are 4 distinct series of Jimnys, all have the same bodyshell just there are some differences between years. Mk 1 98-01: G13bb engine, no airbags, JLX had extra options as powersteer, fast glass, roofracks etc. MK2 01-05: M13a engine, airbags, jlx & jx had different trim option levels. MK3 05-12: M13a VVT engine, new dash, new front bar, push button transfer, also this series had special models such as Z series and "jimny sierra" Mk4 12-current: As above with an updated nose with a scoop, some trim differences, sometime in 2015 there was a small update, newer dash, new wheels. Thats the gist of it. I'm sure someone else can give you more specifics as its been a good 5 years since I've owned a Jimny. |
