Hey all how are we? I am in the process of doing up my sj70 and was going for 2" body and 2"springs with 31"s underneath whilst trying to keep it legal. I understand that in Victoria you need a VACC engineering certificate for anything over 2" of height. But my question is whilst I'm getting this engineered can I also get one for larger tyres? It's just that I see a lot of zooks with 30+ inch tyres and am wandering how you all get away with it haha. Any advice is much appreciated,

28 is the tallest tyre you can engineer on a Sierra.

Under the old scheme were you could also engineer SPOA. under the new scheme I doubt it.

I don't believe that's possible any more.

We have a car in the VIC club certed on 33's and SPOA.... 15 years ago.

50mm larger than the largest placarded tyres.

Some engineers have passed 31's based on the commercial placarded sierras than ran a 6.00x16, but not all will entertain this.

Oh really? That's a bit rough!! Looks like I'll have to go back to the drawing board:( might ring up some engineers anyway and see what they have to say. Cheers all!

My LWB had 31's engineered thanks to this placard.

Yep. Some engineers will accept a 31 on a Sierra with a 15" placard only because they are mechanically the same as the 16" car, others won't accept any data other than the placard on the vehicle.

I can't comment on whether its "rough" or not- it's the rules.

Yep - skin of my teeth - i applied and had the mods approved under the old regime, and completed the build once VSB14 was in full play in WA - my engineer fought the hard fight and because my paperwork was approved before the changes came into effect i made it through. Regardless of total lift and tyre size though, i still passed all the tests required by VSB14 at the time - so they didn't have a leg to stand on and had to pass it, even though it was taller and running bigger tyres than was allowed - it passed all the tests that a lower lesser tyred sierra would have to pass.

That said, i'm now about 100mm wider (rims) and around 50mm lower (springs) - so it's even more stable than it was passing those tests, and still running 31s.

IMO - search search search for the engineer that's got the balls to fight the fight for you. I was lucky - mine liked to stick it to the govt. with curious cars, and mine fit the bill perfectly.
