Hey everyone.

So after getting a wheel alignment today I find that my front left shock absorber literally has oil coming out of it. So it's rooted!

Now my question is, I plan on doing a lift (next 6 months) so is it wise to buy the shocks to suit now and use them or buy another standard one?

Unfortunately my knowledge isn't great when it comes to that. I can possibly foresee there being an issue with its open length being too long and springs popping out?

Any advice would be great.

Cheers

if you put 2" longer shocks in with stock springs you could get uncontrolled articulation, aka, your spring might fall out.

I figured this may be the case. Thanks Jezza!

Since decent shocks are 2/3rds the cost of a lift kit you may has well get the full lift done.

It's not that hard to measure. Unbolt your current shocks, ramp the car until the spring is loose in the mounts and check your extended length. Cross reference that with the extended length of the shock and see if it will still hold the spring tight. I'd be surprised if a dampener from a 2" lift would allow a stock spring to completely fall out.

few bounces, opposite side on bump stops, sprig rotating unloaded in its seat, its close enough to falling out that it better off avoided. monley did it, shot a rear spring out of his, luckely managed to get it back on the angle and poped the spring right back in by hand.

Didn't monley have an 80mm lift in it when he was popping springs?

Spring retainers are pretty easy to make and fit
