Hi all.
Just bought my first zuk and so far im loving it!
Its a 1998 GV 2.0l manual with a bunch if gear was owned by a bloke out a walca i was told. Bugger all kms... 120.
It has bbar towbar lights lift and 245/75R16s that barely rub. Also has exhaust but i think the cat is gone because it backfires on occasion.
Im looking for new at tyres as its got bfg muddies atm.
My question is this...
* can you turbo or tune the 2.0l? If not what is a suitable engine replacement?
* tyre recommendations?
* can you get a vinyl floor factory?
* it there a steering dampener or somdthing available to quell the reverb from the tyres?

Any advice is appreciated!

Dan.

No, there's no off-the-shelf kit for adding power to the j20. These cars are now cheap enough that there's no real demand. If you want more power buy a later model h25 engined GV. It will cost less to do his than meaningfully increasing power from the j20.

I'm not aware if a vinyl floor option.
The gv is rack and pinion- it doesn't require a steering damper by design. If you have steering shake, eliminate a worn rack, tie rod ends, bushes and ball joints and strut wear.

245 75 is quite large for a gv. It must be running quite a bit of lift or has quite a bit of guard hammering etc to clear those tyres. Do they clear with the suspension fully articulated?

With that size tyre the cheapest and easiest performance upgrade would be to install 5.12 vitara diff centers. It probably wouldn't quite get you back to standard gearing but would help the car to feel a little more spritely. 235 75 16 is usually the largest people go because of rear arch tyre clearance when flexed.

Steve is right about the engine. If you want more power sell this one and buy a 2.5l V6. You then have the option of installing the 2.7 V6 if you really want to spend money on old engines.

Thanks! So they do rub the rails at full lock and the guard has some marks from wear but it's not too bad. I'm thinking that 70 aspect or even 235 75s would be better.
I've heard bad things in general about reliability of the 2.5 V6... timing chainsurance etc.
I think I'll try to replace the front end buts when I get the new tyres.
Any suggestions?

Cheers!
