Hi everyone, am a newbie to 4wd and Suzuki brand actually. I have recently purchased a second hand Suzuki Grand Vitara 2001 sport auto, that has been driving fine. In recent days it has started smoking from exhaust on start up, warm starts not a problem only when cold starting. I have attached a video. I replaced the pc valve and its still smoking. Just after some sound advice thanks Video below |

Checked the radiator and reservoir have any coolant left? I'd be thinking the head gasket may be suspect. |

It's idling ok and car has power. I did check the coolant, the radiator is full and the coolant is on the fill line. I bought a oem pcv valve, but might go grab the genuine Suzuki one ?? |

| Post subject: | **UPDATE: Suzuki Grand Vitara 2001 - blowing exhaust smoke |
****** UPDATE****** After getting the opinion of several mechanics and visiting the engineer that rebuilt the engine (engine has only done @ 20,000 km $4500) with them all concluding its either 1. stem seals 2. cracked piston 3. carbonized pistons 4. bottom end engine problem and needing a new rebuild or another engine.... and was almost ready to accept the fact I would need a new engine for this car, albeit reluctantly since its still only new. Well, I went for one final opinion at a mechanic in Belrose who checked the pcv valve was working correctly and fitted correctly and also cleaned the hose connecting to it (I think he called it the vacuum advance hose) After which I am pleased to say not a "huff" or a "puff" of smoke, zip, zilch, nothing!! Car running perfectly and not chewing or burning any oil whatsoever!! Not a damn thing wrong with the engine, bottom end or top end!!!!!!! I am posting this because most mechanics will tell you "looks like you need a new engine" "engine has gone to heaven" etc etc, when the fix was a quick 10 min job. I hope this may help someone having similar issues with smoke from exhaust - it may just fix your problem too |
