Hey all - just picked up 2010 GV as the 'family' car, so obviously major mods coming soon but first does anyone know how the rear door fixes open? Its on a strut, but its not strong enough to hold door open if on a slight angle, and it seems intent on biting me!

It really is a shitty design fault its not strong enough for the weight of the door. depending on your location i may be able to put you onto a supplier of a stronger strut.

Hey Losfer - cheers for that - also having some other issues with the Gv you may be interested in/be able to help with...

- Apparently EGR making wierd noises when car is stopped, currently waiting on part from Japan as car still under dealer warranty. Kinda sounds like a release of gas? Have you come across this sort of thing before? Dealer tells me not to worry and it's not damaging the car, can you confirm this?

- DPF light has come on and dealer informs me its all connected to EGR so not to worry, but now the zig zag light for a clogged DPF filter has come on and she's got no power - read the manual and it said go for a blast to clear it - will this still work now its 'clogged' or will it need to go back to dealer?

- also noticed gears catch a bit (mines the manual turbo diesel) and have read that others have experienced it as well, is this normal or another design fault?

Sorry for all the questions but I love the car, fuel economy is unbelievable - i want to build up into tough tourer but don't want to get too far down the rabbit hole if its a lemon!

Any thoughts would be awesome!

The EGR are a common problem in the diesel (and other parts)but they also do make a high pitched noise for a minute after you turn the engine off under normal operation.

The dealer is wrong about the DPF light and EGR being related (in a way) . An EGR problem will throw the yellow gravity 1 injection warning light (squiggly line in box) and while lit the DPF will not regenerate.
The DPF light will light when the differential pressure sensor senses there is above 50 gram soot mass in the DPF. If you just have the DPF light then a good drive above 80km/h MAY unclog the DPF ,if the injection warning light is on it will not . The dealer can do a forced regen if its just a clogged DPF otherwise the DPF may be able to be cleaned out. Wurth do a good DPF cleaner that you use along with a regen

The gears do feel very "notchy" in them , i wouldnt worry about it too much.

I hate to break it to you but if you dont want to get into the "rabbit hole" then the diesel isnt the car for you. Great when they are driving without problems , but WHEN you do , and you have to pay for it , the parts are very expensive.

I was actually offered one very cheap with no problems but turned it down because i have done a lot of work on them and know the issues and the cost of the parts. Pretty soon a cheap car turns very expensive.
