Has anyone looked into retrofitting an Electric Power Assisted Steering to their car instead of using a Suzuki genuine off a wrecked car? Also interested in knowing if the Vitara with MAF based Suzuki OEM ECU can be swapped for a MAP based Suzuki OEM ECU? If so what is involved? A) not that I'm aware of- why would you? b) all sensors, inlet manifold, loom, ecu, camshaft- pretty comprehensive job. |

Space for what? Yes. The whole EFI system is different. |

I think running electric power steer would also eliminate any possibility of running a falcon alternator too which is a worthwhile upgrade. |

I have sold in the past a lot of electric power steering to guys that own hotrods or other cars where there is limited space . unlike the swift where the electric power steer is part of the rack , ignis use an electric power steer on the column. it does require some special driver or adaptor which i did minimal research on but its what was the preference of these guys due to its size and suitability for thieir application.. |

I completely support the use of electric power steer where no readily available hydraulic alternative. Can't see any advantage where it's easy and cheap to fit hydraulic power steer. In an off road application it will be very power consumptive. The electric power steer used on the kei sierras ran a 50A (or 70A?) fuse, that's steering a tiny tyre with no offset. |

There is not enough room to put the original P/S unit as there is already an air condition unit close by and the remain space is required to fit something else. If i can work this out the it saves me having to come up with a very expensive solution to something else I want to install on my own. Holden Astra's , Barina's and Commodores are cheap and easy to come by. SE416 Vitara alternators are approx 55Amp standard and a GM alternator which Lowrange sells brackets for is around 105Amps. Hi Gwagensteve, Car1: 91 Vitara Cabrio (carb) Car2: 95 SWB Hardtop (EFI) Let me clarify once more. We need the space with does exist for the P/S but we want to use it for something else. If at all we can. Background: Years ago had a failed project because on car2 there is already a P/S and there wasn't enough space to fit an Aisin AMR500. I don't want to lose P/S just because I'd like a nice to have item. Now I am just exploring possibilities how to get around this issue and still have the S/C that I really want. There is a kit for that already and I wouldn't have to worry (too much) about how I'm going to pull off the install. Car1 is my mate wanting power steering. Am I really missing the point of this all this? Or do you just need to relocate the power steering pump to the other side of the engine? |

I think I must also be missing the point. Fitting a whole compromised system in an application it wasn't designed for to avoid modifying an aftermarket bracket. |

I too am missing the point, it appears to be pointless. It seems an overly complicated, compromised, and expensive way to avoid some very cheap and simple to make custom brackets. |

Guys if you try fitting an AMR500 into a Vit with power steering and air-conditioning, it does not matter what bracket you make there is no room to install the AMR500. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Might be easier to swap a J20 in then. If the workarounds are that hard, maybe the whole idea isn't reasonable. |
