Hi All, need replacement wheels for 1998 GV manual 2.0l as 3 are buckled - problem in no tyre shop seems to carry any because of the brakes being too big - Is this a common problem> Any suggestions? I saw some American racing in the size I wanted but not sure if they'll fit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/16x7-American-Racing-767-5x139-7-0-Black-Wheel-Rim-set-4-/232079735815?hash=item360907bc07:g:Af4AAOSw9GhYYbGb&vxp=mtr 5x139.7 16x7 is the wheel I'm looking for - I have 245/70R16s on the car now - just bought them... Please help! regards, Daniel. |

Easiest bet would be to source replacement GV steel rims or XL-7 alloys. They pop up secondhand reasonable frequently. Otherwise as has been pointed out, fitment can be difficult. Goodness knows how they'd get buckled. They're fearsomely strong rims. |

Hi guys. Black if possible I'm in the Maitland area. 0401567010. Three are apparently no good so I might just stock up on a few and use the best ones... i don't really want alloys as they're not as strong but I agree I have no idea how three could be buckled! |

I believe OEM steelies are 6.5" and the alloys 7", and I really don't know where you get the idea that the alloys are not as strong. |

Nope, stock V6 rims - both alloy & steel are 16 x 7" Some 4cyl versions used 15" - but they don't fit a V6 or a 2.0litre wagon with the bigger brakes. The biggest issue is the 'step' in the disc is very shallow (where the outer pad runs compared to the wheel mounting face) - this pushes the caliper into the area where most wheels have spokes. The stock GV rims (only one style, 5 elongated slots) have a very deep 'dishing' of the spokes to clear the caliper. Stock steel rims, you might put a little dent in the lip, if running low pressures & driving rocks, but really hard to seriously bend, unless involved in an accident or roll over. Take the 3 'bent' ones to a different tyre shop & get them to run them up on a ballancer to confirm they're bent. Alloy rims, there is at least 4 versions (when including XL7 styles, which are also 16 x 7") - I have heard that the 5 spoke, gold painted rims fitted to "Limited" cars have been known to crack in the spokes, but not on my car & I've given them hell. Rims from the 2nd gen. GV (2005 on) won't fit, as the stud pattern is different. Rgs, Michael |
