Hi Got a 1990 SJ70 Sierra, replaced all shocks, u bolts, shackles, bushes and new 50mm lift leaf springs. Had to remove front sway bar as that didn't fit. Now car has a death wobble. Checked it all and all looks fine. Do I need to modify swaybar mounts and or steering? I Read up a bit and thought 50mm lift fairly straight forward with no extras needed. Lengthen the sway bar end links and put them back on. It will make a big difference to stability. |

I've ordered new front wheel bearings and swivel hub service kits. So hopefully that should solve the problem. Will lengthen the swaybar mounts to suit as well. Who sells affordable adjustable drag links to straighten wheel and steering box? Cheers.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wheel is straightened by pulling it off and moving it on the spline. This is correct procedure. There are no adjustable drag links available from the aftermarket. Don't bother with the swaybar. Stability isn't the issue, death wobble is the issue. The change is likely due to reduction in caster because of the lift springs. Yes, it's common. It's a sign that kingpins need service. They've probably never been touched in the life of the car. Use the factory service manual settings for knuckle starting torque. Steve. |

Cheers Steve. Will be rebuilding the hubs and king pins during week. Where can I find the factory service manuals? Isn't Moving the wheel on spline a cheat isn't it? Steering box has a centre position with free play and even turns left and right. If you remove wheel and refit it will be in even in steering box. More turn right and less turn left, or vice versa? There is plenty of throw in the steering box for the task at hand. It's not a cheat. It's the correct way to centre the wheel position- there is no other way. I don't have a link to the manuals, but there are some on here somewhere from memory. |
